Re: buying mcgregor 26x
Just trailered my M from Quebec Canada to Key Largo to spend a month on an island where it was really warm and nice. The point is that an X or an M are trailer sailors. If I didn't want to trailer I would have bought a real sailboat. I visited every marina within 100 miles ofmyhometown along the Saint Lawrence River, the Atlantic off the coast of Main, the Keys on both sides but I do love the coral reefs of Key Largo. Next year I have 3 new lakes I want to discover. My fastest speed under sail is 10.9 knots wing on wing with a crazy Scot at the wheel. I've put the windows in the water and rode out a storm in the cabin it's a great boat. I call it a Wnnebateau

Re: buying mcgregor 26x
The 26X has some wonderful features! (of course the slow white hulls are either a safety option or a handicap...much depends upon your point of view)
Doug & Angie
I feel that the blue in your hull makes it very difficult to spot you when you fall to far behind my sleek, white one....
I am meeting with some fellow Mac guys next week to possibly plan a trip across the Channel....it MIGHT be a good idea...

Are you serious about crossing the channel in a MAC? Where from. Are you going to motor or sail?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of these boats too - I love my
- but would be reluctant to do this unless it was on it's trailer on the ferry. It can get very nasty very quickly out there.

chuckle! Unless you're sailing in reverse, try looking past the pointy end of your white hulled boat...you'll find the blue easier to see!!!Baha wrote: I feel that the blue in your hull makes it very difficult to spot you when you fall to far behind my sleek, white one....![]()

Re: buying mcgregor 26x
The X boat is probably the best boat built for the locations you describe - even better than the M boat because the X has a flatter bottom and kick away centerboard that can get into more shallow places than the M boat.ian wrote:currently considering buying a mcgregor 26x - still not sure - love the look of it but some websites are v derogatory about its sailing characteristics - say it is v tender and suffers from windage, unstable and only suitable for within 1km of coast - obviously realise it is a trailer sailer and not a blue water sailer - mainly will be using it for rivers waterways and lakes or around local islands (quite sheltered).
any suggestions please.

For me it was the swing keel and the head that made me buy a x ,I still can not wrap my head around how functional a M head would be ! Many places we went in the keys was under 2 feet of water .
