Bow steel wire replacement
I have a 1989 26D, the bow steel wire that's on the trailer winch is in abysmal condition, with half of the strands broken. I definitely need to replace it. I have a forestay that I just replaced due to my mistake of winching a stuck furling and ruining the forestay as a result. But this wire is only damaged at the very top, and it was brand new (6 months old). So I can cut the top and use on the trailer winch. Question is, is it strong enough for the purpose? The old cable is at least twice as thick. My guess is there is not too much load on it, because people use rope there or a nylon strap. Do you think it would work? I do winch it very tightly when pulling out to try and pull the bow as close to the stop as possible, because the "macgregor bump" doesn't work for me, I can't make the boat slide. So I stop several times when pulling out and winch it a couple of notches more.

Re: Bow steel wire replacement
Free stuff is good stuff but I really dislike steel cable for winching anything I can use a rope or strap for. One steel splinter is one to many.

Re: Bow steel wire replacement
My winch has Dyneema rope, a bit more expensive but size for size stronger than steel cable
