Bilgemaster wrote:Just a quick dumb newbie question: Is that a drain hole in the floor of the head of my 2001 26X, just to port of the porta-pottie? No picture handy, but the hole itself is about the size of a dime, with a sort of maybe ¼ inch deep incuse lip about the size of a nickel around that. If it IS a drain hole, does it just drain straight into the bilge, or is there some sort of pipe or hose leading the flow elsewhere? Assuming it's a drain hole, then mine appears to be clogged up, and tips for unclogging it are welcome. I was thinking of taking a length of pretty stout solid-core copper household electrical wiring to it. I also wonder whether that nickel-sized lip cut in around the hole might be for some sort of little screen or drain cover to help keep it from getting clogged in the first place. What say you all?
Hello Bilgemaster,
Did you ever figure out where that hole in your head was draining to? I have a new to me 2000 X with the same hole in the head. The PO never really explained what it was and I just assumed it was a drain, but now like you indacated, it does not seam to be a drain.
It's just a matter of looking under the head floor with a mirror and a light, preferably via the rear dinette seat base. There's ample room for extra hosing and wiring, so it should be easy to see if something is connected to the drain hole. If not, it will just flow into the starboard bilge.
Sorry Pawseidon, but I still haven't gotten around to plumbing the mysteries of the hole in my head. I'll likely explore it when I get around to finally hooking up all that pressurized water system gear bequeathed to me by the previous owner--likely to be this winter.
By the way, congrats on getting a 26X. I just adore mine, and from what I've heard of San Francisco Bay, with it's vigorous tide flows and insistent currents, I expect you'll be very happy to have something a little beefier dangling off the stern to get you where you wanna be or just outta trouble than some anemic little sub-denary kicker putt-putt.
We are taking Pawseidon on a road trip in a couple of week to Lake Tahoe and they are very strict on contamination both from Bilge and Bay water. They require a boat inspection and I actually have to have the ballast tank go through decontamination with a High Temp Water Flush to kill anything I might have picked up from the SF Bay water.
They then put a seal form the trailer to the boat and you cannot launch if the seal is not intact. When you take the boat out, they put on another seal in case you take it somewhere else and then try to launch back in the lake.
So, long story long, If they suspect anything bad or WET in the Bilge, they will make me dry and clean it out before they let me launch. I’m pulling her out a week early and parking in front of the house to clean and decontaminate before we leave. I’ll let you know what I discover. I also have an email out to PO for more info.
So I just heard back from the PO. Here is what he had to say. Maybe this is the same for you as it was a dealer installed option.
It goes to the pump, located inside the door under the sink.
The pump is supposed to pump the water out the through same hole as the sink in the head.
It was dealer installed option “shower”
Pump is needed since the floor is lower than the hole outside.
There is a button close to the sink to activate the pump.
Open that black door under the sink and you will see everything.
I hope it helps.

Well, that makes sense, since I do have some sort of water line with an inline check valve mating to the head sink's drain line. I haven't spotted the button close to the sink that you mention, nor the pump under the sink, but will investigate. Having a quick douse on a hot August afternoon while anchored just off Sweltersville sounds like an option I can get behind. It's surprising it might be found in my 26X, since otherwise she's pretty bare-boned as far as optional frills go...no stove, sub-generic cushions and backrests...the ultra-basic factory stock model, I'd thought.
