I went sailing on the weekend and when I was putting my sail up I noticed that the cable that was connected to the main sail and to the Roller fuller was starting to fray. It the connection part that goes to the top of the main sail. It looks like there is approx 15 strands of wires and approx 5 or 6 are broken. I checked all the other cables on the boat and they are all fine. Is there an easy way to fix this? If I was to replace the entire cable where would I find such a cable? Has anyone else have/had this problem or is it a common issue when things get older? Thanks for your help in advance and please remember I am in the middle of the prairies in Canada where parts are few and far between.
Do you have a wire-to-rope halyard? If not, I'm afraid I don't know what you're describing. If so, any marine outfitter will have them, though I think they've mostly gone out of fashion.
MY 26X is parked about 2 hours away but I did happen to find this video that shows the cable inside the CDI roller furling. The cable is what I am looking for as it is frayed up at the point where it connects to the main sail. It may be called a forestay? Here's the info:

Do you have a furling main sail or something exotic like that? The "cable" inside the CDI furler you linked is called the forestay, and it does not connect to the main sail. It connects to a hound toward the top of the mast and to a chain plate on the deck. If this is damaged it is potentially a safety issue, since if it breaks the mast will come tumbling down. BWY does stock replacements. The furler is used with a headsail, not the mainsail.
Even if you do have a furling main sail, I'm not convinced the stay for the furler connects to the main sail either. I don't have any experience with those though.
Thanks Paul thats exactly it! It does go to the top of the mast to a hound. that is where it is breaking and yes i know if it breaks then the whole mast will come down and not softly So BWY's would have a replacement cable for that CDI furler?
Any rigger could make one, but it does have a stud on the bottom end which requires roller swaging, so you're not going to do that with a hand crimper.
Wow Tom you are very good! I just pressed "enter" on my order for the upgraded fore stay and came back here and you have it here....wow. Hopefully there are no other complications with it and it just fits perfect. With the shipping and exchange it worked out to approx $150 Canadian just so you know.in case some one needs one in the future. Thanks again for your help guys
The video says exactly what the part is, your head stay. Fraying is very bad . If acording to their infomercial, everything comes apart, maybe you can purchase the part from them
