Hull Question
Hull Question
I'm still working on my "new" 85 Mac 25 and making steady progress. Many thanks to the folks who have answered my questions - they have been extremely helpful. Now, a new concern has come up. There is a slight hook in the hull just over the rear trailer bunk support. It looks to be the same on both sides; there is no cracking in the gel coat. Is this the normal shape of the hull, or could many years of sitting on the trailer have caused this? If it is possible damage or deterioration, is there any way to access this area from inside the hull? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news, but fear the worst. Thanks for any and all feedback.

Re: Hull Question
Back when I had it, my 70s V-25 had that hook, too. I think most of them had it if they sat on the trailer for a length of time. I never repaired mine, and it sailed 10 years, before I sold it, with no problems. I never heard of anybody having a failure due to that "soft spot".

Re: Hull Question
Had the same issue with the Mac 22 I bought a few years back....bottom was pushed up at stern where it sat on bunks. Looked close from inside and there were no visible issues with hull. When I replaced bunks I replaced stock lumber with 2" wider and added 2' to length as there was lots of overhang at the back of the trailer. The amount of flex while trailering was reduced by 50%, I also reduced the load on the hull by lowering the 500 lb keel onto the trailer anytime I had it parked in the driveway.
Re: Hull Question
Thanks for the info and suggestions. Due to low tongue weight, have a trailer mod in the works. We're going to extend the frame and add an axle. Plan to extend the bunks further aft as well. The Mac 25 trailer was obviously built for economy. Thanks again
