26m Aft Cabin Cushion Question

Post by adudinsk »

I just purchased a 2007 26M and do not have aft cabin cushions
Of course the wife want some, so I am wondering the following:
1) are the cushions 4" (should I go 6"?)
2) Are they rectangular, or tapered towards the aft
3) Some photos show that tor forward part of the cushions may not be straight, but have a curve in it? Is this true
4) Lastly, does anyone have actual dimensions. Front/back/length/shape.

Thanks in advance

Are you planning on sleeping there? If so, ask your back what it prefers
2) Are they rectangular, or tapered towards the aft
Pretty sure they are tapered.

I can't find a good photo.

I think your best bet is going to be making a template out of cardboard. There is a cutout for the "cooler" that you provide yourself.

I don't know how thick stock is. Probably 3" of soft foam. We put a mattress egg crate topper on that.

Thanks Much
I have a low quality version of that one..
It "appears" the lady is sitting on a small square pad.. so the aft is made up of 3 cushions
I "??assume"" that the square cut out is for your cooler if you put it there?
(not sure)

The 2nd photo I have never seen.. thanks!!
Now.. any comments on how much it would cost to have these custom made?!?
(??)

Yep.. gonna have to wait until my boat is out of storage.. and start making templates.

Does anyone have any Canadian (London/Toronto/Michigan suggestions as to a place that is reasonable to get upholstery done?

Mine have been in storage for 3yrs as I sleep in the V berth & use the aft berth for storage but I will never get rid of them & plan on putting them back in now that my new radar arch is completed
as for getting new ones made u could stay with the 4" thickness just get a denser foam for more comfort if i get a mild winter out here in Victoria BC I might pull them out & take pic,s & measurements for u , I,d look for a local Marine Interior dealer who works out of their home "Family business" I found one like 5 mins from me I went on her site where she had her work on display that she had installed on some very nice big boats , I was wanting cushions made for my aft stern rail seats I got quotes from all the big guy,s in the $400. range for a pair , she made them for me for $180. for the pair half the price seek & search & u will find !
they match my Helm seat cushions

Thanks for the info...
My wife really wants a "bedroom" also we hope to do weekends with another couple... so I am investigating the aft cabin.
If it were me only, I would use it for storage too.
(Ya know what they say.. first you get married.. next thing you know.. ya have a wife..)
:D

No worries if you cannot take the cushions out, but if you do I would app dimensions.
??Would Tattoo yachts have them and part with dimensions/photos?? Maybe I will call/email them

Thanks

I wouldn't overdo the thickness, better off with a thinner better quality foam IMO. If you go thick those inches cut into clearance quickly.

Maybe look into the dimensions of premade folding mattresses, there are a bunch of places selling them on amazon and such for $100-$200 with upholstered zip covers. They come in different foam densities, thicknesses and colors. I think a queen woudl drop right into the :macx: , not sure about the :macm: We put one in another boat, have been sleeping on it a few years and fully satisfied with it.

That looks like a nice option.
Although I do like the "cut out" for the cooler idea.
I am thinking (from rough measurements before wrapping up the boat) the cushions were each about 30 and aft, 33 at front, and about 80" long, (that would allow enough for a cut out around the stairs..etc.).

Looked at foam online, It may be way cheaper to buy a foam mattress, and cut the foam, have the covers modified..
Wife does want to take sewing lessons.. a Sailrite sewing machine may be a good Christmas gift for her.. :?

Again, not a huge issue.. boat sails without cushions, but trying to make it like the wife dreams.. etc.etc. (Happy wife.. you know how it goes)

Dont use that area for your cooler
Trust me
Keep a heavy cooler on the floor
Right beside the dinette in even with the keel

I put the cooler in that aft berth cutout once, ...... ONCE!

Never again.

Massive imbalance caused as a result, like dangerously out of balance!

U can resolve the outa balance issue by simply having a beer cooler on the port side  , I,ve never had an issue with my cooler behind the dinning aft seat I have it going length wise across behind the back rest
But then again I never laid my boat on it,s side flying a Spinnaker in 30knots of wind like some D/A I just happen to know :D :D :D :P
Oh & I have it on video :)
J 8)
PS , I like the folding cushion Idea but I think air mattresses would b a better way to go the can b deflated & easily removed for winter storage or other uses & also add more flotation when inflated
