Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
Another update - it works fine (now) with Firefox. Logs in automatically, shows the little padlock in the address bar. Works with my iPad, too.
Doesn't work with MS Edge, nor with MS Explorer.

Doesn't work with Maxthon either. Not a big deal.

Another question for members:
How do you navigate to this forum?
Type in address manually?
or
Favorite/bookmark?

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
That last question may have solved the problem, Russ. I noticed that the "http" statement wasn't "https" so I changed it and I now get a secure site... it also seems to be remembering my sign-on! My new link:

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
I don't really get what URL is doing.
It shows as macgregorsailors.com, with a "lock" icon. If I click on the address bar twice, the URL changes to https://www.mac...
but won't stay that way, and reverts to plain old mac... with tke lock.
I interpret that to mean I'm actually secure, but by default it is truncating the prefix for readability. When I click twice, it shows the full URL.
Regardless, it still doesn't remember me, even after clearing cookies.

That worked for me, too! Now I even have the new favicon, along with the padlock and "https" bit. And so far, it's remembering me.kmclemore wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 11:02 am That last question may have solved the problem, Russ. Oh, and Russ, I use bookmarks on my favorites bar, so I guess it was pointed at an unsecure version or portal or whatever it's called. I've since updated it.

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
Chrome seems to abbreviate the address leader "https://www". I assume for the reasons you stated, for readability. If it's a secure "lock" connection, it should remember you.DaveC426913 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 11:31 am I don't really get what URL is doing.

Are you checking the "remember me" box during sign on?
Have you tried clearing cache on the browser?
Delete cookies (bottom of this page)?
Also how are you entering the site? From a bookmark?
Try manually typing macgregorsailors.com in the address bar.

Yea, if you bypass the normal navigation with bookmarks, the .httaccess file can't rewrite it to a https URL. It will use the insecure connection.
The cookie requires a Secure connection.
Whew! So we got some of it solved.
Now to figure out Dave's issue.

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
Yeah, I think that’s the fix.
Everyone with old links in their toolbar or bookmarks should edit the link and add “https://“ to the beginning of the link. I suspect this will resolve the problem for nearly everybody.

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
Russ, are you still linking to the alias site addresses? There was a address that said MACSAILORS but was redirecting ? that was not locking.
What is the direct address to the site now? What is the native address?
I found this address in google:
https://www.macgregorsailors.com/index.html
[https://www.macgregorsailors.com/index.html]
But there seems to be two ways to get to the forum:
index.php
[****index.php****]
https://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/
One of these did not have my cookies loaded. I will try clear all
I can't seem to get the actual native address to display here in the post - it keeps converting it to a URL - I think that's why we get confused because GOOGLE does the same thing in the address bar.
xxxx://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/index.php
https://xxx.macgregorsailors.com/index.html
damn this is frustrating - I can't really write here what my address bar really says.

The address that I use as a bookmark is: search.php?search_id=active_topics
To show what it looks like in real life, use the Code display button above your editing window. It looks like </> and does this:

Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
Okay for the sake of simplicity - when folks search for us in GOOGLE I assume they will type MacGregor Sailor into GOOGLE and get this:

So if they click on the first result there it is the right place and they can bookmark that - right?
