Wow, Jimmy can sling a wharf fat through the gap below the sliding hatch -

Hey, would wharf fat make a good gasket? I think perhaps the fumes from the canister might be contained in a lock box or maybe you can put a paper plate over it.

(I'm not responsible if the box explodes or the plate burns)

It could be the smell but "Social Distancing" was never a problem for me. I seem to come by it naturally. People have been avoiding me for as long as i can remember so nothing has really changed for me.

Boat: Thanks for the proof read! I'm fairly sure wharf FAT is flammable in addition to being unsightly. My daddy always told me, "boy you are so ugly, I have to tie a pork chop round your neck before the dogs would even play with you". Social distancing is not usually a problem for me either.

Waiting on the tide to get up a tad... Headed to the ramp in a bit. Hope they're open. Starting to close down public beaches and beach area parking.

Yeah, it's all weather and small craft advisory over here right now - most folks don't venture too far away from the shore here during the months of April and March so it's the slow time right now on Catalina Island and the people over there are so scared of corona virus they don't want anyone to come ashore. I guess a corona virus would be a bad thing on a tiny island. Almost as bad as an alcohol stove - (it's the alcohol stoves that REALLY scare them).

Well, the propane BBQ didn't kill us. Since I can't find an alcohol stove, I dodged that bullet too. The baby stays did the trick.

Beautiful day. Ramp was almost abandoned. Only a few boats on the bay. Eased up mid-day, but was pretty sporty toward the afternoon.

Youngest daughter and I had a good day.

Prediction was a bit more optimistic than actual...

Ramps are all over the place. 2 or 3 locations on the causeway - at least one near the battleship; Spanish Fort, 2 near Fairhope, Mullet Point on eastern shore; Dog River has ramps at both ends and the middle, another just north of Dog River, Fowl River at Pelican Reef Restaurant, and Dauphin Island, just to hit the ones I'm aware of. There are more.

We usually launch at Pelican Reef Restaurant on Fowl River. The ramp is deep and somewhat protected; and close to the bay. Good people, and I don't worry about leaving my truck and trailer there.

It was blowing good out of the southeast when we left, so we were about 50% reefed. I didn't want to scare my daughter too bad. After a bit, we rolled it all out. We let ourselves get blown north of the Fowl river channel, so in that pic we were working our way south back to the channel. We were able to make decent headway with full sail up.

That is either the Harken flux capacitor or the main halyard - depending on the number of beers...

The sticker says: "if you live in Alabama or Mississippi, put the shiny silver stick down before you drive home. Failure to do so may cause you to spill your beer in the truck. In no case should propane be used on the boat. If you have alcohol that aint fit for drinking, don't bring that on board either. Failure to follow these rules could result in Armageddon." Or maybe it's just the "don't bump power lines with your mast" warning...

Jimmy is like the pirate parrot.

old pirate captain had a parrot that would sit on his shoulder and bark orders at the crew for him.

If pirate captain wanted the crew to go left he would pull the parrots left leg and the parrot would say: "PORT TACK! AAAK! PORT TACK AAK!"

If pirate captain wanted the crew to go right he would pull the parrots right leg and the parrot would say: "STARBOARD TACK!! AAK AAK!"

one day a crewman asked pirate captain: "Arg! What be that foul creatures tune should ye pull both his legs?" and the parrot said:

"AAK! I fall on my ass! AAK"!


Jimmy is sort of like that parrot that sits on the pirate and the more you pull on his leg the better he talks.







i must remember to pull his legs often - the more I do it the better he writes and the more entertained we are. AAAK!

Although I did a driveway test run, I will admit to checking the water pump telltale during the short motor out to the bay, and later during a planing run in the river to dump ballast. Seems the long legged parrot was able to get the impeller replaced with the correct blade curvature...

Ok.. I read all these posts about alcohol.. propane... butane.. hydrogen.. naptoline .. gasoline..

I am just going to buy a fire pit, and screw it down in the cockpit.. carry some wood, and lighter fluid..

There are a lot of charcoal magmas around. If you ever watch Davilia7 on YouTube, he grills on a charcoal grill off the stern. I prefer the taste of charcoal grilling, but I'm not brave enough to do it on my boat...
