Coming along nicely. How are you going to tie the back stand with the plate and bowl cubby to the cabinet?

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Thanks! Still a little abstract, but it won't look like much until it's got skin.
That's a great question. Current plan is to take the side panels up in the rear portion, and bolt the side panels of the plate rack to the side panels of the base cabinet. Unfortunately, that 54" span may get floppy in between (nobody likes a floppy plate rack), so I may use some small metal angles screwed to the back of the two inner frames extending up to the back of the plate rack.
It will have to be attached in the boat. I'm almost positive it won't go in with the plate rack attached
It really depends on how stiff I can build the plate rack without making it too heavy.
I'll be building drawers for a day or two. Then I'll skin the back and bottom. After that, I've got to decide what I want the finish to look like. Paint or stain, light or dark, what species of wood, etc. Then, go buy a cabinet grade piece of plywood and see if I can pretend I'm a cabinet maker instead of a framing carpenter...
Plan is to finish the base cabinet, then build the plate rack. Hopefully, I'll be able to firm up the attachment/design of the plate rack before too much longer.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Today was slow rolling. Cut and install dead wood for drawer slide mounts. Then, mount the drawer slides. Finally, got one drawer box made, but ran out of energy before I got it mounted.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Been building drawer boxes and installing/aligning drawers. Only made one too wide. Had to get out the hand plane and take about 1/16" off the deadwood runner support. The soft close mechanisms will give you 1/16" if the box is too narrow, but you are SOL if you make the box too wide. But a few minutes with the plane and mistake gone... Note pile of wood shavings in top pic to the right - under the jaw horse...

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Next order of business is to work out the water supply and drain. Looks like it will be entertaining.
Sink drain is standard kitchen size. If I had gotten a marine sink or food truck sink, they make a 90 degree drain fitting with a 1" hose barb.
I'll have to see what I can work out for this. Faucet water shouldn't be as much of a challenge, but by getting as much drawer space as I could, I've made it pretty tight in there. Especially with that sink.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Got mostly derailed yesterday, but did manage to find one quick, but ugly, solution to the drain problem. Decided to let that marinate and get the gimbal mounted. Used an oak block to space out the 1" I needed for the fore-aft pivot clearance to the hinged lid. Used counter-sunk stainless 1/4" machine screws to attach it to the 2x4 backbone...
Instructions for the stove say 64" clearance to combustibles above the stove burner. Even mounting it low in the galley, I can only get 38". The metal-lined lid will deflect the heat plume out through the open hatch, so I'm not too worried about setting the cabin top ablaze. I will be checking some temps with my infrared thermometer after install, though. I feel pretty good about it since others are using Butane (and propane) stoves on their countertops without incident.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
One possible solution to consider for the drain is to send it straight down and cut a hole / slot in the drawer bottom that allows the drawer to open and close around the drain hose. A vertical segment around the hole / slot to keep things from falling thru.Jimmyt wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 12:37 pm Next order of business is to work out the water supply and drain. That's certainly something to consider. My neighbor did a drawer like that for his daughter in a bath vanity.K9Kampers wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 6:36 amOne possible solution to consider for the drain is to send it straight down and cut a hole / slot in the drawer bottom that allows the drawer to open and close around the drain hose. I did a variation of it on 2 bath vanities that I helped his wife with; where I split the drawer into two drawers with a gap between for drain/water supply. A pic of one of them after install in their new beach house.

Well, you live in the South, so I figured everyone has big frying pans and that you fry buckets of chickens and need to get a gumbo pot on that thing.
You have a big frying pan, right? You guys don't eat avocados and drink wine and crackers like over here - right?
In mexico they would have a big pot full of shrimps and in Idaho they would have big smokers.
The only pots they have over here are for smoking.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Butane stoves have a max pan diameter restriction; around 10-1/2" I think. Beyond that, heat gets reflected into the fuel canister with rather dramatic results...
I'm planning on building the pot holders to preclude over-size pots and pans. You won't hate me because I have a small frying pan, will you?

If it ain't fried, or in a big boiling pot (shrimps and gumbo), it just ain't worth eating! What is an avocado? Crackers are for crunching up and sprinkling on your gumbo.BOAT wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 7:05 am Well, you live in the South, so I figured everyone has big frying pans and that you fry buckets of chickens and need to get a gumbo pot on that thing.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Yup, we got avocado toast here - and burritos made with only fresh uncooked vegetables inside. I complain about the food but I get doxed for it. Over here and on the nightly news they say Californians are just better than everyone in the other 49 states. If they banned the juicer and blender people here would have no way to make breakfast. I like bacon and eggs for breakfast but over here you get cancelled from your job for that.
There is a petition going around the state right now to move the capitol of the US from DC to Sacramento since that is where all the decisions are really being made anyways so your butane stove will be banned soon anyways. Pretty sure Sacramento was planning to tax sailboats for using the wind, too. Frying pans are illegal here. No fried foods are allowed in the home - you need a permit to fry food. You guys will understand in a few years when it comes to your state.
