Hison 26: How Good?

Post by zamber »

How good is the Hison 26? According to alibaba they are still being made and start at just $15,500. Is there anybody else still manufacturing a MacGregor like boat?

Maybe this offer is, but Hison really manufactured MacGregor copies. Here it is on their website: http://www.hisonjetski.com/latestnews.php

Thanks Zamber for the link. Went to their main page and they only seem to have small jet powered craft. Couldn't see anthing on a sailboat other than the pictures on the brochure you linked to.

That beach photo is of a 26m in New Zealand, owned by the then MacHregor Agent, Haven Yachts, on Kaiteriteri Beach.

It's there. Scroll waaayyy down and the last craft they show is an all white M knockoff.

I wouldn't trust it for several reasons.

Could quite possibly be a genuine Mac painted white.

IF, they managed to copy and create a mold, I would then question many other quality issues.

Send them an inquiry and see what they say.

Send me $14,000 and then wait a bit ... okay, perhaps more than a bit. :)

Zamber,

Something really smells about this.

If you are interested in making a purchase, do your due diligence, and go about this with your eyes wide open.

Don't do it.

At the very, very best, it's a cheap knockoff of a the original product with no warranty, history, or certification. The design was almost certainly stolen from MacGregor, and the boat, if it exists, will be an absolute disaster.

At the worst, bye bye $ you'll never see your money or the boat you think you're buying.

I thought that I had a terrific idea several years ago. Instead of trailering my Mac 19, or 26X to Florida and back every year, why not just buy a boat that is already in Florida, and fly back and forth. I found a boat on craigslist that looked an awful lot like the Tattoo 22 that I had seen at the Tattoo factory in Florida, so I bought it. Big mistake. It took 3 of us to get the mast up, the rudder weighed at least 50 pounds, it was nothing like the Macs, or Tattoos, etc. etc. Plan B was that it was on an aluminum trailer, which my Mac 19 is on now. I gave the boat away.
Obviously I'm biased, having been a MacGregor/Tattoo dealer for over 20 years, and sold over 100. I've sailed on a lot of boats over the years, to the Bahamas, coastal cruised Mexico, etc.
I think that I mentioned recently that I talked to a man when I did the Strictly Sail show in Chicago. He lived on his Mac 65 in the Bahamas and used his 26X to go to Florida for supplies.
It's pretty hard to beat a MacGregor for any type of sailing that I do. :mac19: :macx:

This is an old thread, but I thought I'd update it with something I found (admittedly 8 years old!)... a video of the actual Hison "Kingfield". Just putting this here for reference.

This boat is still listed on the Hison website, BTW. (http://www.hisonjetski.com/latestnews.php)
