Cliche of two happiest days - NOT TRUE

Post by kevin carroll »

Crew, It is with mixed emotions that I made the decision this weekend to sell 'Jump the Shark'

I am in the market for a Gemini 105 and will be making an offer on one Monday. You will notice that I did not state that I am trading up, because that would be a misnomer, my 2001 26X was the perfect boat for me for the time I had her.

I spent many an afternoon getting her just right, some of my mods are posted on this board and others are not. Although I have not sold her yet, I find it very hard to believe that this will be one of the two happiest days of my life.

I will of course post a full description on the classifieds on this board.

If anyone is interested a very well kept and modified 2001 26x in Southern California (San Diego)

If I figure you bought her for 30k fitted out, and will get 15k for her in good condition, I guess that comes down to about 3k per year depreciation.

If you can buy a moveable cabin anywhere with resort views for less than 3k per year in costs, I sure dont know where.....

COngratulations on your new to be boat, Kevin, and dont be a stranger!

There are only three boats that interest me. The 26X and the Gemini 105C are two of them. The third is Gemini's sister ship, the Telstar 28.

So I can identify with those mixed emotions, Kevin. The Gemini is a terrific live-aboard boat, great accomodations and views! If it could be trailerable, it would be first on my list.

Fair winds & Best wishes! 8)

I would go for the 105 right now also... one of my best friends owned one (had it in NC-liveaboard and SD- sold it due to military deployment schedules)- in the military with moves and time the Mac is the perfect boat for me now. Great choices (past and present). (I also like the Telstar 28 as well for a non liveaboard boat.

I can't agree. My HD was the day I picked up the Mac at the factory parking lot! Don't get me wrong-- my wife and daughter bring me the most joy-- but my wedding day and the birth of my daughter were two stressed filled days I would describe as my most RELIEVED TO BE OVER WITH days. I truly dig the Mac more and more over time-- that old cliche about being happy to sell your boat holds no water with a Mac!

Gemini 105 Offer accepted

Post by kevin carroll »

My Gemini 105 offer was accepted and also someone made an acceptable offer on my 01X. Hate to see her go, but can't keep two boats! The Gemini is a 2000 and the survey came back today very positive so will be putting her on a truck to transport from East Coast to San Diego.

Thanks to everyone on this board who I borrowed and stole ideas from, my boat was heavily modified with quality ideas from this board and in my opinion really helped sell the boat.

There was a Gemni 105 slipped right next to us in Oxnard a few weeks back and WOW, talk about boat Envy! Congradulations on the Purchase!

If you don't mind the asking and telling, what is the general area that a 2000 Gemini goes for? They do look like Great Boats, it is the slip fees that keep me from something like that, not the initial purchase price.

In fact, very very cheap at 116,000, because that was base boat price in 1999, when that article was written.
:)
It's closer to $150,000 to get a new one today.

Gemini

Post by kevin carroll »

Me-Mine,

interesting you bring up the 'gratification' issue. Part of the Gratification of owning the 26X was the community. Making my own mods, joining the Venture Yacht Club in San Diego and learning from the other X owners. While I am sure I will enjoy the new Community of Gemini owners. it won't be the same and I am not starting from scratch like my 0126X.

I know a few folks were curious, and there generally is a price difference between 'asking' and 'selling' price especially on the advertised 105's out there. When I finish my transaction, I don't have an issue posting the price I paid for it, but I want to make sure the sale is compleated first!
