Stock furler eye to change

Post by Alexis »

Hi! I haven't shared on this site in a long time. For those who are wondering: all is well here, thank you!

I noticed last season that the furler could be difficult to operate at times and that my brand new furling line started to prematurely look shabby ... I inspected the furling line eye on the bow and realized that it was so worn out that it showed a deep groove where the line runs. See the attached picture.

I ordered a new eye on Blue Water Yachts that I received very quickly (thank you BWY, BTW!) But then.... I have a question... How do I access the nuts to remove the eye? This part of the boat seems enclosed and not accessible...

On my 2002 26x, the furler padeye is screwed into the deck with a couple of stainless steel screws. To say it another way ... the padeye is held in place with screws, not bolts, and they do not have nuts on the inside of the boat cabintop. Here is a picture, marked "padeye." The screws will probably come out readily. Suggest you use a sealant like 5200 when you replace.

Hopefully you got one with a stainless insert.

It looks like it is positioned over the bow flotation area. It's probably just screwed to the deck, not bolted through it.

I had the same problem with mine. They were just screwed into the deck with a lag screw. No nuts on the other side. I installed the new one with a little 3M 4200. I'm sure these are available from a lot of places, but if you've got a list to order from BWY, they have them for $6.03 with the stainless insert. http://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/4407-1v4.htm

Hello Tom, C Buchs: yes, I purchased the stainless insert one from BWY.

Thank you for the answers! I think I prefer having it screwed to the deck as is seems much easier to change than having to cut an opening in the liner inside the boat...

It doesn’t change the angle of the furler line by very much, so mathematically the load on the fasteners is relatively small. I wouldn’t worry about it. 8)

I had a similar issue and decided to go with a stanchion fairlead to keep them off the deck. This one https://www.westmarine.com/buy/spinlock ... d--2637312. --- I have a few extra deck fairleads if you want without stainless insert. I would not have bought in hindsight (not crazy about more holes in my deck). They're yours if you want them.I think there are 2-3

I have the same fairlead in the same place on my :macx: . As far as I know there has never been a furler on it so I'm assuming it is a factory install. I use it for the downhaul for my jib. Are there any other uses for it?
