Thanks for all of the encouragement, guys!

Put some of it together to start getting the varnish wrapped up. Put on a coat, wait 6 hours, sand, vacuum, wipe down, repeat... Lost my train of thought and filled some pin holes before putting on the first coat of varnish . Sanded as much out as I could, but still had some staining. Otherwise, I've got one more coat on the face and the dividers, and I'll be done with the front side. The back will be much easier to deal with. Sand it with the random orbital and slap a few coats on.

Table is next. Hopefully I can remember to install the drawer module before I glue down the laminate.

would a cheap electric sprayer not b faster ?
I prefer the laminated flooring because it,s lighter , face is prefinished & backing pretty much matches the M liner colour & pretty much maintenance free & I just seal the edging with tremclad mat black paint which gives it a 3D effect & faster & easier to work with just my lazy preference

Thx again for the great follow up & pic,s I smell a winter mod in the work,s , but that,s after I find & fix 3 water leaks 1 at the mast base 2 on the port side poss window or roof or deck fittings been trying to find them off/on again for a yr now but it,s gonna take 2 people one outside with a garden hose with just a trickle of water running around where I think the water maybe coming in & one inside lookin

Spraying would be much faster. Unfortunately, it's hot as blazes and very humid, so I'm varnishing in my shop where it's cool and dry. I can't spray indoors (need to build a booth I guess).

Pre-finished flooring is a great idea. I'm using birch plywood because that's what I made the galley out of and I want them to match. But, I've been known to use pre-finished flooring on a project or two myself. That's even faster (and a lot cleaner) than spraying! Here's the Admiral's book case for her COVID work at home office, decked with pre-finished oak flooring. I did brush on a coat of gloss poly so the sheen would match the trim, but at least I wasn't doing the brush, wait, sand, repeat dance.





We've been chasing leaks on my neighbor's island Packet 31. It's a marathon. Missing screws in the teak trim, chainplates, water tank fill, even a couple of hatches. Like you said, two people and a water hose is about the only way to run them down. Good luck, and happy hunting!

Today went pretty well. Started varnishing the backside of the plate rack. While that was drying, I got the Admiral to help me set the tabletop onto the drawer module. I had a big bead of construction adhesive around the perimeter of the drawer module, and couldn't figure out how to drop it on by myself, perfectly aligned... We got it pretty darn close. Only had to tweak it, so no glue got where it shouldn't be.





Put a couple of finish nails in to hold the alignment, then drilled and screwed it together for keeps. Since I was going to put laminate on, I had to fill the screw heads, so I mixed a batch of bondo up and smeared that on. Hit it with the cheese grater when it firmed up, then sanded it smooth. Then, I stunk up the place by rolling contact adhesive on the tabletop and laminate. About 30 minutes later, I got the Admiral to help me drop the laminate on. Rolled it down, then hit it with a flush trim bit on the router. Starting to look like something that belongs in my fifty shades of beige interior.









Set the plate rack on for effect.





Now, I need to put on the edge trim. I need some more oak to make the rest of it, and it's raining. Tomorrow's another day.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Had a good run yesterday and got the trim made and cut to fit. I pin-nailed it in place so I could sand it to shape at the corners, then pulled it off to sand the rest of it, and apply the finish before gluing it on. I don't know if everybody owns a pin nailer, but it's really handy for putting trim on or temporarily holding stuff in place. And, you can get it back apart without tearing stuff up - if desired. Today was spent working on Louise's fish class sailboat. Reworked the entire traveler setup to get a 3:1 at the boom. Also, remounted the turning blocks and cam cleats at the cockpit so they actually worked. Beautiful day outside here. Cool and low enough humidity to use my nose instead of my gills. Only had enough steam left to sand and put another coat of varnish on the trim this evening.

Varnishing in progress... if you notice the odd shaped corner trim, that's a kmclemore-inspired crumb scupper. Since OverEasy put it out there, I could feel the pressure to copy it. Thanks for the great idea guys!

Got the table trim on this morning. Couple of update pics showing finished trim. Now, I need to put the last 3 pieces in the plate rack, and paint the table bottom. Then, I'll be ready to move/shorten the leg and do the install. I can see the goal line.

Plate rack is complete. Second coat of beige (actually ivory) drying on the bottom of the table. Need to measure for a temporary table leg for the test fit. Don't want you cut the real leg until I'm sure my knees clear the drawer.

Seems like I've spent half of this project waiting for stuff to dry.
