I watched the series of them yesterday. If anyone else has I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on some of his choices for materials, adhesives, etc. There were some things he did I'm not sure I agree with like how he applied the new windows he made. Also curious if anyone has experience the that POR15 that he used on the keel. I almost went that route when I first got mine but decided to let the pro's do the job. Unfortunately, they didn't take the keel out and only sandblasted and refinished the part of the keel that was down while the boat was up about 5ft. on blocks.

Did my keel myself. Removed it, stripped and cleaned it bare, then 3 coats of por15, 3 coats of special por15 primer, then multiple applications of epoxy and with silica filler, finally topped it all off with 3 coats of VC performance epoxy bottom paint. Looks great but have had to touch up the tip from some bottom scrapes.

Hoping it holds up well but it's only been on this year so time will tell.

Any idea about how long that took? That's gotta be the most daunting task I've faced with mine. Might be different if I had a DIY yard close by or my own big shop to park it in with the right hoists, etc. like in the videos but, I just don't see how I'll pull that off.

Steve, if you were asking me, my answer is, results can vary.
I have fully done the keel once, and partially redid it once more.

First time, was along with refinishing the whole bottom. Figuring it out as I went with some guidance and ideas I found online. That whole round took months.

The 2nd partial was when I changed my plan from just trailering to trying it in a slip.
I had used a topside paint for the topcoat that could not be left in the water for extended time.

Having already figured out how to remove it ,the partial only took a few days, but I only sanded off the top coat to put the VC epoxy on instead.

I used boat stands to lift the boat off the trailer and shuffled them to get the trailer out.

Then a combo of floor jacks and a dolley I made to hold the keel and move it out from under the boat.
And my secret weaapon was my Kubota tractor to lift and move it around while working on it.

Steve, you could do it without the tractor. Just I have one and made use of it.

Without it, I would have just worked on it on the dolly and used floor jacks to move it to get to areas touching the dolly. Or I might have gotten and used and engine hoist.

I have also seen where folks used an engine hoist to move them. Like a portable one with a hydralic lift jack.

Just be sure its rated for the weight. Thats a big hunk of iron.

For me, I used the tractor to lift it onto HEAVY duty sawhorses and to flip it when changing sides I was working on.

An engine hoist could do the same. Just moving it around would be best on a paved surface.
