Making A Old Man Very Happy

Post by sailboatmike »

Yesterday we bought the boat home to her home port.

She was used a week ago as the Limousine for a wedding to bring the bride in.

She looked stunning and the bride looked pretty good too :D

Anyway I asked a old friend to help me crew back, he is an old sailor (76 years old) who was a keen trailer boat racer in his day winning many championships.

I navigated her up the channel and got the sails up and handed him the helm, it was such a beautiful day blowing around 10knts, blue skies and flat water.

Anyways, he just loved the Mac and the way she sailed, we spent the whole trip almost on a beam reach.

We powered along on just the 110% Jib and main averaging 4knts

When we docked he had the biggest smile on his face and he told me that he had heard that these things couldnt sail but it is obvious that it isnt the boat that cant sail but the idiots that had tried to sail them and couldnt adapt thier sailing to suit the boat.

He even rang me at 10pm last night to rave on about what a great day he had and just how well it sails.

So we have another convert to the Mac and it makes me happy knowing that such a simple thing as letting a old man have the helm could bring so much joy

He is in his late 70's, 76 I think he just turned.

Of course he would look happy and young, he is sailing one of the premier trailer sailors AND he doesnt have to worry about paying the running costs :D

Hi All!

Loved this thread!!!

“Age is matter of mind over matter. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter!”

Our MacGregors are designed to meet a variety of missions at a multiple levels of skills and abilities.

Sail it aggressively or sail it gently.
Motor occasionally or motor majorly.

Day sail in/out or live aboard for months.

Local pond or coastal distance traveler.

For the youngsters heeling over hard or for the mature crowd a gently reefed sail.

Moving at hull speed or powering along up on plane.

We love 💗 our Mac26X for all the capabilities it provides!

Memories included!

Best Regards,
Over Easy

On three different occasions, Nice Aft was used as the local for a couple’s engagement photo. It was pure serendipity.

I happened to be on a dock we were tied up to, when the boat was used as a back drop. I offered to let them pose on the bow while the photographer stood on the dock. They appreciated it, and I felt good in helping a young couple.👩‍❤️‍👨

Besides being nice sailboats, they sure are pretty.
