26M galley removal

Post by Bobglas »

Planning on cutting a hole for a hatch on the aft end of the galley. Last time I cut into fiberglass the dust was not good. I thought I could just slide it off, nope something stops it. Wondering how others have dealt with this issue. I thought removing it outside where I could cut a hole and install a water pump without a big mess then reinstall would be the way to go. Any suggestions?

Inside the cabinet on the bottom surface, there are three nuts. Two on the forward end, and one in the outer aft corner. Remove those nuts and lift the galley unit off of the track cars that it slides on.

Here is a post where I show the tracks and slides (I added a fourth slide when I installed my new galley). You only have 3.

You will be amazed how light the original galley is.

You mentioned the problem with dust. I have made a lot of cuts in my interior using a vibrating cutter like this one:

Not dust-free, but at least it does not sling it around like a circular saw would.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

Good advice. I use that type tool with a shop vac scavenging the dust at the cut for relatively clean cutting.

Thanks, excellent advice! Appreciate the forum! So many times one can go down the rabbit hole only to find out they've screwed something up and that there was a much easier route that others have taken. :)

Hi BobGlass!

Here is a nice vacuum adapter for the vibrating multi tool that may interest you…

I had the help of the Admiral when we made the fiberglass cuts for our galley mod last year to hold the vacuum hose by the cutter head.
If I’d had one of these adapters and flex hose it could have helped to make it more of a one person job.

(There are other brands out but this is the one I’m ‘now’ familiar with :D :D )

Hope this helps.

Best Regards
