Re: Cabin Flooring?
I do not have the proper equipment. I had the binding done professionally.
This was done well over a decade ago. The carpet store that sold me the remnant had the person that did their binding do it. The charge was minimal. A decade ago, so I don’t remember the cost.

Re: Cabin Flooring?
I watched a video on putting edging on the carpet. Its easy. Probably a home machine could do it on most carpets. Probably easy and cheap to get done. Itd be a 10minute job for our boats.

Most of the tasks I need to learn for sewing are covered well on Sail Rites youtube channel. They have rolled edge pŕesser feet that make the job that much simpĺer.

Re: Cabin Flooring?
Finally decided to use an Amazon EVA Foam product for my flooring.
2 sheets were about $180cnd..
Pros: Sticks like mad, mfg suggested using a sealant (3M adhesive) around the edges so it will never pull up.
I opted against as if it fails, I will never remove it.
Super soft on feet (no spike heel shoes please)
Easy to install
looks good!
CONS: Very soft, and has a texture, collects dirt and is harder to clean
Very soft, if you put something down on it.. it will dent the foam, often permanently. ( or will take a summer to be warm and relax out)
I figured for the $ I would try it.. If we like it.. Seal the edges, if not remove it and order Sea Deck.
So far, So good!

Re: Cabin Flooring?
When I purchased my remnant, the store bound the edges. Not free; I paid for it. That was about twenty years ago, so I don’t remember what I paid.

Re: Cabin Flooring?
Hi All
Just a 2 cent perspective….
Choices of floor covering:
Carpet over EVA foam
Carpet over wood
Bare stock floor over carpet.
If in cold weather use anti fatigue mat or carpet on top of anti skid material.
Doubled over beach towels work fine and are easily washed in the home or marina washer/dryer (can also be used for other uses after laundry run).
Best Regards,

Re: Cabin Flooring?
I'd love to put some flooring down in our X... problem is that in bare feet on the bare floor, my head grazes the hatch, and I don't want to give up ANY vertical space. Also, I hesitate to bring any more weight on board, or anything that isn't easily removeable or replaceable. I'm concerned about added flooring and mold growth (by allowing water underneath). Doesn't leave a lot of options.
Right now I just use a Costco entrance mat, cut to shape. It's totally non-skid, easy to remove and dry out, water resistant, and looks decent. It does leave a hard-to-clean black rubber residue on the fiberglass floor that doesn't look great when the mats are out.

Re: Cabin Flooring?
Hi Starscream!
I agree about the Costco mat and the “skid” marks left behind!
One of those scotchbright kitchen scrubbers and Dawn combined with a dab of elbow grease lifted ours off… Couldn’t bring myself to do it twice so I just pitched it.
That white bubbly carpet grip sheet underlay worked good for almost a season or so but died a crumbly demise by the next year.
We gave up and went bare floor.
Ifcold then a towel doubled up worked.
Easily changed and cleaned in any washer / drier too!
Lots of style, texture, color and patterns available at that fancy French sounding department store……….

Re: Cabin Flooring?
I bought a box of wood flooring from a big box store. Cut it to fit and it looked good. The problem was I'm not a good carpenter and the cuts were crude and the wood wanted to slide a bit.
Perhaps some of the newer stuff with softer non-slip backing and better cuts might have worked better.
Eventually, I went back to the original factory carpet. Looks beige and boring but softer than a bare floor.
