Headsail choice might depend on where you sail. Mountain lakes suck for sailing. Winds come from all directions depending on time of day. T-storms pop up and with too much sail up can be pretty dicey.
On our lake, winds go from barely existent to too much. I have the 150 genny and will "reef" it when winds get too high. Then I just pull all sail in and motor.

For the first season, I'd just use the regular jib. Learn the boat.

Blue Water Yachts can sell you a complete standing rigging set. Easiest way to go. http://shop.bwyachts.com/category-s/287.htm

Logs, where did you buy that boat from? It looks familiar. The hull lettering that is.

I purchased the boat from a medical professional in Kalispell, so I figure it was sailed mostly on Flathead lake.

Funny, the twists and turns in life…I’m sitting in the boat in Sheridan, Wy, at the boat check station. They’re closed, but I just couldn’t go on South tonight, too many deer stains on the highway and I just can’t do an all nighter like I used to…

Two and a half years since I last posted, but I’ve been around, getting my fix. Turns out I’m still quite relevant ant work and still have little time for myself, not retired in the least. I moved to the Fort Worth area of Texas a trailer load at a time, right now it’s the boat’s turn behind the truck. There be dragons beyond 70 mph. Anyway, I hope not to lean on “you all” too hard as I put the boat together again, most everything of weight is in totes in the bed of the truck

Dallas area looks like a possible final retirement area for us. Or anyplace without snow months out of the year. Some nice places to sail also.

Yea, even with my dual axle trailer, 70mph+ starts to get dicey. Smart to put heavy stuff in the truck bed.

Keep posting. BTW, you probably passed through BZN on I90 your way, should have shouted out and had that pizza together.

Lots of great choices for places to live and sail in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We have lived in Grapevine since 1998 and love it. Convenient to both Dallas and Fort Worth, just a few minutes from DFW airport, lots of attractions, tourist and otherwise, Lake Grapevine, several marinas, launch ramps, and Grapevine Sailing Club out of Scott's Landing Marina in Grapevine. It's a well-organized club with lots of activities throughout the year (just had our annual Wounded Warrior event where we take military and their families out for a sail), and a laid-back, inclusive vibe.

Send me a PM if you need a local guide. I cover the Metroplex in my work as a home inspector, so I'm familiar with the territory.

Hi DancesWithLogs!

Glad to se your still out there!
Where in Texas?

A fair bit of 12 years was misspent (20s) youth was in Texas… East Texas and in the North Dallas area.
It was what it was and like any reasonable person of that age made the best of it.
A lot of the Texas lakes are engineered fill lakes so they tend to be on the shallow side with clay pan bottoms.
Good thing / Bad thing where you need to watch your depth and avoid the tree stumps. :D :D
There are some really nice areas around Galveston, Padre Island, Houston, Corpus Christi and elsewhere to get out on the salt water if that interests you.

Was REALLY glad I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area before my 30s though!!!
It was significantly more enjoyable weather, geography and culturally.
Mountains, lakes, Bays and ocean!!!
All within an hour or so!!!
Great infrastructure too with excellent medical facilities, highways, work opportunities and diverse cultural interests.
The diversity and acceptance of thoughtful different perspectives and approaches was tremendous and enjoyable!
The weather in the Bay Area was interesting too as one could get spring in the morning, summer in the afternoon, fall in the evening and light winter at night.

One was smart to carry a light jacket in the car year round… Definitely nicer than the oppressive heat/dust/humidity of a mid-Texas summer or the ice storms of winter. The flat terrain of Texas and grey winters were something I didn’t miss.

After more than a dozen years my profession took us to the NH New England area.
The winter snow took a bit getting used to but there were dramatic seasonal changes…sorta like there was an old man up in the mountains with an old railway switch he’d turn… the abrupt seasonal changes were always enjoyable. It was a great place for the kids to grow up!!!

Mind you as I got older the snow part (specifically the removal of snow) was something I didn’t enjoy quite as much in my 60s as I did in my 40s.. :D :D :D

The South Carolina region around Beaufort is pretty nice and I probably where we’re gonna probably settle on when it gets to that point in time…just not to that point as yet🫣🙄😎😎. The near year round access to the rivers, estuaries, bays, ocean and beaches is hard to beat but the ever changing views of the pond, woods and mountains of the Lake Region of New Hampshire are a very close match. The diversity and infrastructures are better up north too… so if there was just someway to get the driveways cleared off without needing to shovel and snowblow…🤔🙄 :D :D

The truth is just about anywhere one can be comfortable, happy (and not get shot at🙄🫣) is a great place.

Best Regards
Over Easy 😎😎🐩🐈

Yea, our son works for American Airlines and travels to DFW often for training etc. He tells us we'd love Grapevine and many suburbs of DFW.
He often flies down there for good BBQ and comes back later in the day.

Maybe in the fall we'll take him up on his free flight bene's and come down to explore the area. Maybe I'll hit you up for some local guide info when we do.

Well, hit me up when you do. Be happy to be of help in any way. May even have a guest room available.

Something I did not mention about the Grapevine Sailing Club is that they strongly support women's sailing and racing. So, if the Admiral is "into it", she would fit right in!
