Stupid Question 1:Fuse Replacement

Can anyone tell me how to replace the fuses in the OEM switch panel? I see the squares to the left of the switches labeled “fuse,” but my IQ is apparently too low to ascertain how to open the holder or replace the fuse. It’s not immediately obvious to me.

Will one of you kind Mac26X owners advise?

I don’t have a fuse panel in nearby to take a picture for you, but if you look closely around the bottom edge of the fuse holder, you’ll find a small hole. Gently push a paperclip or similar small metal item into that hole and the red cover for the fuse will pop out. Careful, as it is spring loaded. You should be able to withdraw the fuse and the spring and inspect & replace the fuse. Replacement requires you to just put everything back together with the spring, as you found it originally, and pusk it back into the holder until it clicks.

That standard fuse panel was the first thing I replaced. I broke many fuses forcing the wrong way.

If I remember, you insert something like a paperclip in the side to release the fuse.

I broke one of the red inserts on mine. I was going to order some replacement parts, but found it was cheaper to just order an entire extra panel and take the parts I needed. The panel is a Sea Dog part number 422010-1. You can get it on Amazon now for $39 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Y ... UTF8&psc=1. I paid $24 for it back in 2021.

After breaking a fuse holder because I couldn't figure out how to open it, I decided to upgrade the entire panel with circuit breakers (I know they are not as good as fuses) and LED pilot lights.

The seadog panel light bulbs were drawing a lot of power just for the pilot lights. New panel has more capacity and switches.

You did it right. A new panel is the way to go. I think the reason the old panel is so cheap is because it has been replaced by better products. I need to quit my job so I have more time to work on the boat!
