Hello all,
I'd like to add a couple fans to my D. I think I'd like to install a mounted one for the V berth for the kids, and one that I can clip to the companion way ladder to use for the aft berth or rotate around and shoot into the cabin when we're eating. The V berth I would hard wire but the aft berth I would just use a 12v cigarette lighter attachment as I already have an outlet right there. Do we have any favorite fans that seem to perform well? Is it worth spending the bigger dollars for the Caframo's vs something off Amazon?
Bonus question on humidity. We spent the last three nights out sailing, sleeping in anchorages. We don't live in a particularly humid part of the world, but we were noticeably clammy at night as we slept. I assume this has something to do with condensation as we have three living bodies in an enclosed fiberglass space. Would the fans help reduce this?
Thanks!

The clammy nights come from lack of ventilation airflow. You need to exchange the air in the boat with air from outside the boat, so a local fan wouldn't help. Leaving the foredeck hatch open, with a screen, is a good option in conjunction with a companionway screen. Can be a bit cold depending on your location, but that's what sleeping bags are for. We always sleep with the companionway open, as we have a full cockpit enclosure with screened side windows that allow ventilation but also protect the companionway from rain. Our foredeck hatch also has a 3" Nicro solar ventilation fan, so if it rains we still get some air through the hatch.trswem wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 9:02 am Hello all,

For local "cooling" fan airflow, we use rechargeable USB clip-on fans similar to this. It's easy to add USB ports all over the boat to power these things, and even if you don't have them everywhere like we do, they run for a long time on their internal batteries.

We do have one hard-mount 12V fan in the aft/port berth that's powered from the boat main electrical system, but we don't use it much.

I use a small RYOBI battery fan. Rechargeable batteries. I bought an extra battery. Works mint. It has a couple speeds and a very good clamp. I got it at Home Depot.

Usb rechargeable ++ (house bank charges 2 to 4 phones overnight & i recharge the fans during day while idle and motoring)
Last all night on low and medium. ++
We position them to blow on your face seems to cut back claustrophobia. +++
Good clamp ++
I think they changed the brand name from upolar but should be same.
