Great news! I glad you found the problem.

Did you try to move the prop by hand? If so, did it slip? Just checking for future diagnosis.

I did try to move the prop by hand...but i couldnt tell whether the prop was spinning or if i was turning the motor over.

As far as ballast, i do fill the ballast when it gets rough.

When mine spun, I could not get it to slip by hand.

What does it mean that the 26m is stable to 90 degrees? I have seen this on other posts.

Only if the ballast is FULL.

You also don’t wish to be there, and you best have a plan if you do get there.

I have sailed my well in excess of 45 degrees;; it was fun. I have no interest in 90

Well if 90 degrees means the top of the mast is just about touching the water, i agree i dont want to be there either...

It means that the boat can heel 90 degrees (mast parallel to the water) and it will return to an upright position once the force is removed.

As other posters have mentioned, this is only true if the water ballast is full.

This is neither normal, desirable, nor enjoyable.

Staying in the boat beyond 45 degrees is not difficult. your speed is practically zero, but it is fun doing a balancing act with the boat. Anything bellow, which is not fastened down, will be tossed around. The most fun is watching the looks on power-boaters faces; they think you are about to capsize. This is not for everyone. i am lucky. My wife gets a kick out of it.

Just brace your feet against the lee (downhill) side of the cockpit. It's pretty easy up to 45 degrees or so. I don't recommended it, but that's how you do it. It's rough on the sails, the rigging and the crew and you will be barely moving to windward. The juice is not worth the squeeze.

My 90 degree debacle was a microburst that I caught near a thunderstorm. I was able to release the main but the pressure on the jib was too much to get the cleat to release in time. The boat was dragging the the main in the water while being spun at least 360 degrees by the jib. I tore the rotator cuff in my right shoulder yanking up on the jib sheet trying to get it to release. As soon as the storm passed the boat came right back up on her feet. The whole thing probably only lasted 15 or 20 seconds but it sure seemed longer.

I prefer the looks of the power boaters when I come by at full throttle, up on a plane.

It's even better when they have been following me through a no-wake zone and I take off at the end. I may not be faster than they are but I'm way faster than they thought I'd be!
