26X fuel tanks = More Fuel?
Is there a 6 gallon fuel tank for 26X we can fit 2 of them in each side of the fuel lockers?
Are there other solutions for more fuel on board (other than strapping to top)
My boat is in a dock that I hand carry my fuel, 6 gallons tanks are the largest I can handle.
I like my current fuel tanks but can not get 2 into a side.

Have found them much more robust than the attwood brand
Have considered a single larger tank, but then I will need a larger transport and to transfer fuel at my dock.
Not really worth the effort, but two per side would work.

Don't know if there's a 6 gallon tank that you could get two of through the locker opening. Just replaced my original Nissan 6.6 with two 9 gallon Scepters, which required a slot cut for the cap/feed fixtures on top. I already have a new Scepter 5 gallon with the controlled pour spout and real handles for refueling, only plan on directly filling the 9 gallons when towing into the gas station. Otherwise the 5 gallon refill can will be strapped in under the captain's seat.leefrankpierce wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 6:41 am Is there a 6 gallon fuel tank for 26X we can fit 2 of them in each side of the fuel lockers?

9 gal might work.
Would need to figure out how to fill, but at least I could be from 12 total to 18 total.

I have the two 9-gal scepter tanks with the notch cut out of the bench, and I fill them through a 4" round deck plate installed in the bench top. A simple add. Actually I recommend using the larger square deck plates, to have a little more room to see the level.leefrankpierce wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 12:29 pm 9 gal might work.

There are tons of ways to fill the tanks through the deck plate: funnels, pumps, siphons, gas station nozzles, or just pouring.
I had the boat out yesterday testing the new Suzuki SMG4 multifunction gauge, which was flawless, showing digital RPM and tons of other info on all screens. It sure made me want to add the fuel senders so I can see fuel level.

I have 2 of these. They do fit side by side on the same side. Its a snug fit. You do need to unscrew the cap when u put it into the cubbie then i screw the cap on once its under. You could spill gas that way if the tank is too topped off but it hasnt been an issue for me. The one other issue is the handle does stick slightly out but its not a big deal to me and allows me to reach down lift & jiggle to see how much fuel is left. On my 25HP 4stroke I get about 100km of ranfe at 6knots with the 12gallon capacity.

Hi LeeFrankPierce!
I can fully understand the weight of hauling around fuel tanks!
The 5 and 6 gallon capacity tanks are about as much as anyone would want to lug around…never mind around slipways and finger piers!
We went to the dual 12 gallon tanks on Over Easy replacing the 9 gallon tanks she came with when she adopted us.
They were low profile Mohler tanks similar to

We trimmed the opening to the cubbies and added rectangular hatch covers to the bench seats.
Best move for us and our situation as we berth at a marina that pumps gas or we tank up at the gas station on the way in to launch.
The slight extra cost to refuel at the marina is small compared to the lugging aspect for us.
(The station fuel lines lengths are generally sufficient and haven’t had a problem so far…)
We added an external mounted fuel filter water separator/pump-bulb/fuel -tank-selector to simplify things operationally.
These were added to the Mods section of the forum a couple of years ago and have performed flawlessly.
Having 24 gallons of fuel aboard has been beneficial for our operations primarily as a cruiser and exploring the ICW and local rivers/bays/bays/estuaries.
One backstop option we’ve considered utilizing if we were to find ourselves in a situation were to not have a refueling marina and keep the boat in a slip would be to get a fuel caddy like the one below:
with a 12 VDC transfer pump kit.
That way we could wheel it down to the dock from the parking lot.
To transport it we’d use one of those hitch trays like this:

And add a DIY tuck under slide out 3/4” thick plywood ramp to wheel the caddy on/off.
We also considered that a DIY deck box down at the slip to save having to run back to the car… it would probably be not only easier to keep the caddy down at the slip while we were out and about but safer too in that the caddy wouldn’t be out in the open parking area in the hot sun (or tempt those with sticky fingers).
Just some thoughts you might find useful or at least interesting…

Best Regards,

I fit two of these 6 gallon tanks on the starboard side of my cockpit - with an extra two in the garage in case I ever want to "move up" to 24 gallons.

Re: 26X fuel tanks = More Fuel?
Hi All!
Something we’ve found to be quite useful in getting things to and from the boat is a foldaway hand cart. We got ours from Harbor freight but these are available elsewhere as well.

It makes getting heavier things moved around the docks a whole lot easier!
We primarily use it to move the portolet holding tank from the boat to the dump station and back.
(We put the holding tank portion in a large plastic trash bag as a ‘just-in-case’ when moving it)
It’s also great to use for the cooler and heavier things to move like the time I changed out a battery a while back.
Me lugging 30+ pounds of fuel (twice) around the docks isn’t something I’d call light duty…
.
Just a suggestion….

Re: 26X fuel tanks = More Fuel?
The https://www.walmart.com/ip/Scepter-0859 ... P0QAvD_BwE brings back a memory of when I bought the boat, had two of these that did fit one side, they were rotted. Had totally forgotten and never knew what brand they were.
Thanks that is what I was looking for.
Can carry them and get 24gallons on board with minimal fuss vs the 12 I carry now.
