Raise mast on the water?

I hate to embarrass her, but the Admiral hasn't learned all the terms. When I ask her to attach the antenna to the top of the mast, it's a difficult conversation and often easier/faster if I just hop off the boat and do it myself. "Which way do I turn this thing?" "Does it go in this way or the other?" Oy. She has learned to leave the boys alone to do the rigging.

I'm just impressed she can climb all the way up there!

For real, the wives are amazing for hanging out with us and coming along on our crazy journey's. I don't expect the wifie to know anything about boats; its not her thing. I will continue to try'n find ways for her enjoy it. But Im just glad she comes and shares a bit of it with me (either while Im working on the boat or going for a sail)... have her grab a book and hang out in the sun while Im tinkering away. Its the best thing since sliced bread.

Agreed. I'm happy that she enjoys sailing and comes along. Mechanical things are not her thing but she excels in other skills.

If someone already mentioned it, here’s the tip again: If there is any breeze at all while raising the mast while on the water, take your anchor rode and pull it around to the stern cleat while still anchored. The wind will now “help” you raise it. You would be surprised how much.

I live near a concrete ramp, and my friend is on the way. I have everything set ready to raise before I leave home, pick him up on the way, he backs down the ramp and slams on the brakes. I slide off, wave goodbye, motor out, anchor, water ballast, raise mast.
Retrieving is the same in reverse (basically)....

I do the same but "solo". I tie one end of a 50' rope to the forward cleat and the other to the tow vehicle. I back down the ramp until the boat just begins to float and then gently apply the brakes. The boat slowly floats off the trailer stopping at the end of the dock. After tying the stern dock line to the dock I remove the rope from the tow beast and move it to a dock cleat then go park the trailer.
