Mac19 - Drain in Motor Well?

Post by SailArrrr »

Hello - First post re my new to me 1995 M19..

I could not find a drain in the motor well in a 1995 M19. All the dirt and debris piles up and it is a pita to get the water and goo out.

Is there one on later boats?

I was thinking of drilling a hole and using 1/2" sch80 PVC pipe as a super drain.. something I did on my C22 years ago.

Regards
Mike

I had thought there was a drain from the factory. Having said that, I did find this photo of the aft cabin showing a drain on a Mac 19. It doesn't look factory, so perhaps it was added by the owner?

It's from here:

The lower hose is the factory drain. The upper probably owner added bilge pump.

Did the M19 actually come with two hose clamps on each end of that drain hose? If so, I'm impressed and somewhat bummed that the factory "cheaped out" and only put one clamp on the drains in the X.

Technically, none of our through-hulls are always below the water line but I had a (self-inflicted) problem with my head sink drain that left me with 4" of salt water in the bilge just from waves lapping against the boat while it was beached. My problem was caused by my own carelessness but a failed single clamp in the same line would have had the same effect.

No, only one clamp per end from the factory, and the drain on my 19 is always below the water line!
