Only just read your post, Moe (been sailing the Greek islands - not in my Mac unfortunately - but a great flotilla holiday).
It would be nice to hear from you on this board whenever you get the chance.
You were really helpful last winter when I was up to my neck in electric cable, wiring diagrams, etc and I have always enjoyed reading all of your posts.
Best wishes to you from the UK.

Thanks guys! Weather cooperated and I got some pictures, built a website and placed a MacGregor Sailors Classified Ad, at MacGregorOwners (SailboatOwners) and TrailerSailors.Org. Also plan to list it on Boat Trader and iBoats.

As a long time lurker on this board and a future Mac owner I just wanted to say to Moe; Wow, your for sale website is great! I think your boat will sell rather quickly given your presentation skills and obvious meticulous care of your boat. I'm leaning heavily to the M myself (I'm a Laser sailor so I'm used to dagger boards and any Mac is huge compared to the Lasers) but you do make persuasive arguments in favor of the X. Anyway just wanted to comment on your great site and thank you for all your contributions. Just today I downloaded your engine comparison spreadsheet to help me decide which motor for my future purchase. This forum is a great group and though some may be sick of the X vs. M debates, they are really great for folks considering a powersailer. Plus, I do say it is fun to watch all you great folks spin each other up.
Don't be a stranger to this forum and good luck to you.
Ah-ha!! Now I know the real reason you're selling it! You can't keep it at home. That would be a deal breaker for me, too, Moe. Half the fun is putting around and taking care of the boat at home. Your boat is a real steal. If I didn't have a 2002x myself I would seriously consider driving out there to buy yours. BTW, do those suction cups stay up? Few ones I bought always seemed to slip. Take care and don't be a stranger.

Yes, but remind her that the extra $10 grand got you a blue hull (that you have to buff out to keep the scuffs out) and a less featured head design.RichandLori wrote:I mistakenly let my wife look at Moe's website and it got me in trouble. Damn......
Also, you got a rotatating mast that rotates some of the time.

Moe's X
I've decided on the M. However, I too screwed up and let my wife see Moe's boat. I had to reconvince her of the merits of the M. Darn you MoeRichandLori wrote:I mistakenly let my wife look at Moe's website and it got me in trouble. Rich, how much did you spend over that $6,500 on sail covers, anchoring and docking equipment, hardware upgrades, etc? And I'll bet you still don't have an adjustable backstay or cockpit seatback cushions!RichandLori wrote: I shouldn't exaggerate on the price difference, as I only paid $6500 more than Moe's X for my 2004M, so not as bad as 10K.

Moe's price ia a great deal on an an essentially new example of an impossible to find new boat, with every option already added. If i could have known it would be for sale, and could have waited for a year and a half, i would have rather bought Moe's X than the one i did buy last year.
Note how easily an X interior could be made similar to the M's .....
snap-on removable carpeting applied to the lower hull liner, and some gelcoat coloring to the upper liner.... replace the cushion covers....
