CAPTAIN STEVE. Heres the scoop, when you go to MDR you will pay for two parking passes, you put those on your dash and your good to go. If you stay more than 48 hours your supposed to buy a third or more pass and call the harbor office and leave a message on their answer machine. If they call you back your request is denied. If you dont hear from them
Then you have authorization. (Strange I know) As far as BBQ in the lot well I think the dont ask dont tell will work. If we get told not to. We can always move it over to the park a few 100 feet away.
Now From what I understand there are about ten boats going? If there is more coming we really need to know as This first get together would be to feel out what we would like to do in the future. I think we should have some activity for the small kids, as there isnt a whole lot for them to do there.
Maybe some enterprising Mom here can come up with something simple but effective. If there is older kids coming maybe a few of us can bring some dingys for them to row around in, Ill bring mine.
Scott and I sailed last Saturday, and had a great time. Scott stayed in the
Overnight slip for the week end and really liked it. I would suggest anyone that wants to do this start on Friday, as Sat. the slips were full.
As far as sailing trip we sailed to the Star of Hollywood towards Malibu then headed out to sea towards Catalina for a couple hours never used the motors and had a great sail. Look on your chart plotter you will find the star of Hollywood wreck (you cant see it its under water) but at that point you can sail all the way to Catalina if you desire. I suggest we dont go that far and just have some great day sailing everyday. Maybe a trip to
Redondo beach and back one day.
As far as parking for the Night, lets park In the back all together As you come into the ramp area go down the second isle to your right and go into the back of the parking lot. That way we stay out of everyones way and the ramp has been pretty empty back there. We can swap lies and brag over there. Everyone should bring their own food and plan to sleep in your boat or motorhome. There is water and restrooms available and if someone stays in the slip and lends their card key out there could be showers too. Maybe Ill pop for the slip and do this but will stay on my trailer. Ill be there Friday so if anyone is sailing up PM me.
Scott brings his bikes up to MDR and really likes it; maybe we can talk him into doing a bike tour or something. Electricity is not available in the ramp parking lot but in an emergency I can set something up for a short time. Like charging a dead battery or something. West Marine ( TWO OF THEM) is within walking distance so bring lots of money.
All in all lets keep things simple this time if the response is great then next time we can get some dealer or factory backing. Inmon did say he was interested but what he can do I dont know but he will at least pop by
And maybe give some pointers. I like to teach so anyone wanting to learn
About launching or sailing I would be willing to share what I have learned the hard way, such as how to not have to do the Mac bump after putting your boat back on the trailer. Also I will show the autopilot and GPS that is on my boat. (It makes me feel important) so pick my brains and lets have some fun.
Oh I almost forgot the Coast Guard aux is there every week end and If you want your boat inspected and get that little sticker that says your boat is safe then that can be done at the time your there. (I got mine last weekend, I was in a hurry and didnt want to waist the time) But the guys are real friendly and give some good pointers.
Mike Inmon as far as I know is not hosting; We will be on our own but together.
Ok so its the 11th 12th and 13th right all ok with this? Thats next Fri sat. Sun.

Thanks for the info Mike. We will arrive with Boat in tow Saturday morning with full crew compliment. (Captain, Admiral, and two kids: boy 7 and girl
There is a chance that we will tow down Friday evening from Oxnard, but that will be a play it by ear last minute decision based on many factors, like crew cooperation and disposition!
The idea of keeping is simple sounds great for a good kick-off get-together and should help us get to know everyone without the stress of an aggressive timeline.

Ok if anyone going wants to contact me, pm Ill give cell out to ya.
or look for the white and orange dog that Im calling all the time. Her name is bridgett and she owns MDR area so you all have to be nice to her.
Shes on a diet so dont offer her more then 2 beers and a pound of beef jerky an hour. Also found a place that has great ribs to go not to far from the ramp, Ill probably do the rib thing instead of BBQ. Or maybe not we will see. Its up to bridgett. If the rib thing sounds good to others Ill make the run an order of beef (enough for two chubby people like me) costs 20 bucks.
they also deliver that might be the way to go too. what ever you guys want. or slap a hunk of meat on the BBQ would be cool to.
Night time is chilly so suggest sleeping bags in the mac. sweats for the chill
around 4pm. Any one thats coming from the midwest T shirts would work were kinda wooosses here when it comes to cold. Maybe we can do a movie night thing outside, anyone want to haul their big screen tv and dvd down? I have the new star wars movie and the Mac video......just a thought in keeping it simple.

Mike Inmon (Inmon Yachts) is going to do some short sails with the group on his vintage Mac, in between selling tons of Macs. He says that he will hang out & BBQ with us at the ramp.
Our group (2 adults, one 19 and one 14 year-old) will arrive at 9am. Rather than planning an epic sail for the day, I suggest that we spend the morning on some short group sails just out of the breakwater, technical know-how swapping, drag races, and meeting all of the other sailing families.
This is going to be great, and the weather is holding!

Great minds must think alike! I will have my DVD player and 13" tv ready to go! Any bigger Mac TV's out there? We can also make some kettle corn on the Magma-BBQ, throw in a few beers, hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps, and some Mac stories and we will have a great time!aya16 wrote: Maybe we can do a movie night thing outside, anyone want to haul their big screen TV and dvd down? Ill set up a margarita table, blender ice, fixings for the young at heart.
I would like to launch at around 11 am Saturday, all go out and sail some.
anyone going, that cant be there at that time let me know and will radio our position to you. Any one that has Ideas on where to sail to let me know.
For a good day sail, I sail to the star of hollywood wreck and out (south) then sail back not much if at all motoring. This is about a 4 hour loop. I do this searching for dolphins to watch.
and it will take us out about 12 miles to deep clean water. I will monitor channel 72 for later launchers Just call "agusta". When we get back around 3:30 or 4pm we can set up in the back of the parking lot to swap lies, have dinner and turn around and do it again sunday, maybe sunday we can go out and visit Dennis Wilson watery grave. I have the lat- long. I put an invite in to Roger Macgregor, he has not called me back so far. But as was posted before Mike Inmon will be there Sat, and Sun. He will be racing Sat. afternoon we will be going by the race area on the long loop I described above. Bring cameras, let the world go by that weekend and we will have a great time. Anyone that needs anything before we get there let me know, I have tools and chargers, drills and what ever already there. Rain forcast for thursday but not fri, sat, or sun.
I will be there Fri.

We will be there by 9AM Saturday if not Friday evening, so we are definitely up for a few hrs of sailing. That would be a great chance to learn from others and see different techniques in Mac handling, everything from mast rigging to sail trim. I just hope no one will be looking for any hot tips from me
. I can start to sense some type of MacGregor Yacht Club forming here we will have to explore that idea. Personally, I am looking forward to checking out your autopilot installation Mike, as one is on my wish list. If I was smart, I would buy one and have you guys help me install it Saturday evening, which could be the next best thing to a professional install job I would think.
The kids are excited, but only second to the Captain.
(Rick and Molly, will we see you there?)

Sailfish: Now I have to go early to my boat and wash and wax it, so many people are going aboard her. Just kidding your more then welcome to check it all out. And any help advice or you want Im willing to share.
Im looking forward to checking other boats out. Scott says he will be coming Sat. and if he does you guys will be in for a real treat as his newer model M is very nice the amount of work and the quality he put into it was awsome. He did some design work on the slidding kitchen that will turn some heads, speaking of heads, his is the most practical way to add a real marine toilet. You have to check his boat out.
Scott and Marlo have to be some of the greatest people you will ever meet.
