Sale of the Famed Enterprise Sea

Post by richandlori »

My dear MacGregor friends, I am moving one step closer to the reality of buying a Blue Water capable boat (Pearson 365) and setting off on a grand adventure. I just placed an ad to sell my much beloved Enterprise Sea 2004 26M in the MacGregor Classified ads. I have had butterflies in my stomach all day over this, but sometimes you have to sacrifice a known good thing in pursuit of what you think will be an even a better thing. Thats how it works, right? .riskrewards.linked together and unfortunately inseparable, you cant have one without the other? That may sound corny, after all we are only talking about resin and glass here, but you all know that a MacGregor is more than the sum of its parts. It represents something different to each owner and family, to me and the Boren family, it represented a huge first step in clarifying what are the important things in life.family. In the 18 months weve had our MacGregor, we made 48 boat trips of varying length and aggressiveness, but with each day on the water, I and our whole family have unforgettable memories that revolve around my family. My sons first grade teacher asked my wife if I worked on a sailboat because almost all of my sons crayon drawings consisted of a Blue Hulled Mac, complete with a black M on the mainsail. So as my wife and I came to this Pull the trigger decision at 1147PM last night, we commented to each other that we dont regret buying the Mac for one moment, just as we didnt regret other learning experiences and first loves in our life, because they all go into the mix and mortar of who we are today, the type of people we are, and where we will go tomorrow. And with the blessings of the almighty, creator of the wind and sea, we will be gently carried to that distant shore, where the grass is indeed greener!

Below are some of the boat details and Photos.

Listed for sale is a Model year 2004 Blue Hull (No.530) MacGregor 26M sailboat powered by a Honda 50, with approximately 45hrs of engine run time for $28,000 OBO. Both the boat and engine are in excellent as new condition. The engine was serviced in December 05 as part of routine maintenance, where new spark plugs and engine and lower unit oil was changed. The boat has always been trailer stored and is currently kept at a mast-up storage facility in the Channel Islands Harbor located in Oxnard, Ca where it is awaiting your inspection. The 2004 26M is the open salon version, which I found more desirable over the current 2005-2006 model year 26M with its sliding galley and dinette layout. The current model year 2006 26M can be purchased new for $32K at H&S Yachts plus sales tax ($2,300) for a total new boat cost of $34,300, which will give you a bare bones boat still in need of much equipment at considerable cost which is included with this boat purchase. Receipts for included equipment with sale of boat totals $4,750. To crunch the numbers you could spend $34,300 for a new boat with another $4,750 in equipment and upgrades totaling $39,050 or you can get a great boat 19 months old in as new condition for the asking price of only $28K. That is a savings of slightly over $11,000 savings for a boat that is ready to go to Santa Cruz Island on day one! All receipts from day one of boat ownership along with all owners manuals will be included with boat for complete documentation. The Honda 50 motor came with a 3 year warranty, which started in June of 2004, and is transferable to the new owner, which will keep the motor under warranty until June of 2007. Option is available to keep the boat in its current mast-up Channel Islands Harbor storage facility where they put and remove the boat from the water for you for $105/month, which means there is no need to mess with a costly tow vehicle. An option is also available to include a Garmin GPS/Depth sounder model 178C for an additional $350 (unit retails for $700). An arrangement for a sea trial can be made at both parties convenience and I will include a full day boat systems and operation session including a sail out of Channel Islands Harbor. The reason for the boats sale is the desire to move up to a larger blue water capable boat for extended worldwide Cruising and as every one knows trying to have two boats is like trying to have two wives!

RICH...I visited with a certified yacht broker at the Houston Boat Show. He has an interesting Pearson 36 that he mentioned to me. The owner, a 72 year old fella, has maintained the boat in mint shape. You can look at it: www.sailboatcorner.com The boat is shown in the long list and named, "Separation". Asking 42K, and can be bought at $38. I thought Id give you a "heads up" on this... it maybe something of interest your way. The broker is well known, and offices at the Watergate Yachting Center, Kemah, Texas. Name is: Josh Johnson--age appears to be about 55.
A Pearson 36 << a real nice boat.

BTW...Real nice pics of the Enterprise Sea...Hope she finds a happy new owner :!:
:macx:
EDIT: I thought the dealer said 36' during our conversation, but the web site shows the boat as a 35'. I may have misunderstood...lots of noise at the boat show...Happy Sailing....

Louis...in 1980, they changed the layout and we actually like the pre-1979 boat layout better....but thanks! It was cool to look at and compare to this one Pearson 365
.

I was just telling Lori at dinner that the worst thing about selling the Mac and moving to a Pearson is that I haven't yet found any comparable PearsonSailors.com site to compare to this great site! All the friends I have made here and actually met and went sailing with is definitely part of the MacGregor community. Ill definitely keep in contact with all you great folks and go sailing with you guys, you will now just be able to motor circles around me, with a max motoring speed of 7.5knts! That extra 13,000lbs really slowed you down!

A matter of fact, when we actually get the boat, I will throw a Boat Party for all my Mac friends! Ill even buy the beer (except for Mike.Im not sure I could afford that :D !)

You havent see the last of me yet.Im not that easy to get rid of  !

First Moe, now you Rich! Whats this world coming to?

Seriously, though, the compromise will be well worth the adventure you are about to undertake. All the best to you & the family, happy sailing and God Bless.

Nice blue Mac by the way.

Leon,

I will actually be in Sausalito Thursday and Santa Cruz on Friday looking at two different Pearsons.

I do have to say that Moe is on a whole higher level of knowledge than I, sometimes (okoften) I have to read through some of his highly technical posts more than once. But it is safe to say, we both enjoy spending some net time here with our buddies!

Thanks, Rich. The best thing about a MacGregor isn't all its capabilities or its bang for the buck. It's the community here.

I hope you continue to participate here and am looking forward to your experiences with the bigger boat and cruising.

rich;

best of luck, hope the boat sells, and the new one works out for you. i'm jealous of the sailing talk, as i get ready to leave in 1/2 hour for a 4 hour drive on snowy winter roads. Don't look back ,life is short, and there's nothing wrong with chasing the dreams.

EXACTLY!
All it takes is one wrong step off the curb or one drunk driver and it over (at least down here anyway). Lots of my friends and family have been asking me lately..."are you crazy? Why do you want to take that risk?" While I was thinking something like, "if I have to explain it to you....you wouldn't understad", I usually just smile and let them know that they are more than welcome to come out sailing with us anytime.

That actually is the most difficult thing about selling our Mac, we won't miss it's 3500lbs when we are out on a 18000lb boat. Or the M's head porta potty when taking a hot shower in the seperate shower stall, or...or...or...BUT we will miss the anticipation that I usually have after a Great Mac trip to rush to the computer and share it all with my friends.

I'll still be around....there are just too many good people here to just leave and not look back...same reason you are still here Moe. You know what I mean!

Rich,

Glad to hear you're still going to hang out on the net with us. I too am excited to hear the tales of your voyage. One day, I would like to do the same, after I start a family and the kids are old enough. For now, I'll just live vicariously and enjoy sailing the Mac.... not so bad I guess 8)

Too bad your Thursday & Friday itinerary isn't the other way around. I'm heading to San Rafael on Friday to take my boat in to the dealer to have some minor steering problems fixed... right on the way to Sausalito. It would have been nice to say hello. For now, my Mac is out of action, however. Wont have a daggerboard for the next three weeks. Best of luck with your hunt for that Pearson and selling The Enterprise.
