I'll be starting a new job in the next few weeks so maybe I can accelerate the timetable. We'll see.

My husband, Jim, and I just got back today from a too short 3 day trip down (north) the St Johns River. Stopped at Hontoon St Park. (dog walk). If you have the time it's a nice walk (about an hour) out to the Indian Shell Mounds. Then we went up to Lake George and spent the night in Silver Glen Springs. Good place to swim. Water is nice and clear. Sailed Lake George the next day then sailed almost to the Astor Bridge before we finally had to crank up the iron wind. Spent the night in the cove by the Monroe Lake Park..(wont do that again, between I 4 & 17-92 bridges. Didnt hear a lot of traffic but that isnt what we came for. Did it for convenience..easy to go to the dock and walk the dogs before anchoring and first thing in the morning. No wind at all so motored to the south end of Lake Monroe and went exploring. Saw a lot of gators the 3 days we were out.

There is a sailboat anchored at Silver Glen River. It was there the last time we were ...but he looks like he hasnt moved. Two houseboats were rafted up in the same spot they were in the last time also. What a great place to spend a few months in the winter. Next time we'll spend a few days there and more time on lake George.

When going to Silver Glen River...pay close attention to the markers. There is a shallow area both sides of the entrance and only 3 or 4 feet at the entrance then it opens up a bit. But worth the trip. I wonder if the sailboat has a fixed keep and cant make the 3 or 4 ' depth. Maybe he is waiting for the rainy season

Saw a beautiful blue Mac M in the Sanford Marina. Is it anyone on the board? There was an X on a trailer at the same marina. My husband fell in love with the M. Cant wait to see him out on the water and get a peek inside.

Last weekend out we saw what looked like a M19 on the ICW in Melbourne, like an X but appeared to be shorter.
Name was "Good Grief"...

Where is the best place in the Daytona area to launch and leave your vehicle for a few days?

Idle Time, Ive never had any problem launching or retreiveing from the Halifax Harbor Marina. You can get to the inlet down the ICW bout 5 miles with mast up, no problem. I dont know about parking for long periods, Ill find out in a couple of weeks when I go down there. I havnt been thru the inlet yet, we tried last week the waves were 3 to 4 ft and the tide was comming in, we were doing ok, just a little wet. A 50ft pwr boat in front of us turned arround and came back in. With him out of the way I could see nothing but white caps out there so we turned arround also. However Im sure we could of made it and been ok, boat was very stable, ballast in.

P.S. dont worry when going out if you miss the tourist sign on the ICW that says "Inlet This Way", we did, however the ride is very scenic and worth it anyway.

My wife, Anne, and I have had our 98 Magregor 26X at Monroe Harbor Marina in Sanford for over a year. Our boat is named "American Spirit". We often sail on Lake Monroe or just cruise "down" river to Hontoon. The Swamphouse Grill is a nice stop along the way, for a meal, if there is dock space! Got as far as Astor one time and stayed at Blackwater Inn for a night. Great food there, too. Hontoon River is a beautiful place to explore in the Hontoon/Deland area. I usually monitor channel 9, if any of you see us out there. There is another 26X moored at the Monroe Harbor Marina, too. It is the Tailwind, and its owner's name is Zip. He sports a 90 HP engine, so you have catch him before he gets up a good head of steam! The launching faciities at the Sanford Municipal Ramp are generally good except at low water. Keep an eye out for the rivership Romance and try to avoid her as she comes and goes. Before we settled on keeping the boat in our current slip, we tried sailing in Lake Harris, near Leesburg, which is a beautiful place to sail, but only one real marina, and they had a two year waiting list for a slip. Good launching facilities for Lake Harris for a day sail just off State Rd 19 at a county park right on the lake, but they won't let you leave your car there overnight.
