Faded blue hull

Post by trumpetguy »

I have purchased a one year old M with blue hull. The port side is very dull, the starboard side looks good. I have applied two coats of Star Brite polish with Teflon with no appreciable differance in the port side, but the starboard side shines like new. I am thinking that MacGregor may have left off a final clear coat on the port side. It should have shined up after two appliations.

Any ideas?

You could try a fine grit polishing compound and see if there is some surface oxidation that can be removed.

My approach to getting my blue hull looking new was:

that's gotta be oxidation due to the fact the the port side was exposed to the southern sun and the starboard side wasn't.
pure and simple.

clear coat left off on one side? no way...

you need a product that will take out the oxidation. there are many options out there with different levels of abrasives based on the degree of oxidation.

you need a power buffer as well.

I agree, i'd start with thinking its oxidation. Get yourself a buffer, a light to medium cut pad, and some 3m compound and give it a whirl, i'll be you are impressed wtih the results.
