I recently developed some deep "scratches" in my beautiful blue gel coat. I am talking I think (closer inspection later today) about 1/16 of an inch deep and about 4 inches long. I have two of them about midway up the freeboad.
Talk to me about repairs, and I do it or does it take a pro. How about a temporary fix til the boat is pulled at the end of the season (it lives in a slip during the Summer)
Thank all have a great remainer of Summer ...Carpe Diem.
I have fixed digs in my white Gelcoat with those Gel coat repair applicators sold at different boat stores. Some come with color mixing capability not sure if they have blue.
Doesn't Mac sell a touch up Gel coat for the blue hull?
After applying the repair you need to cover it with wax paper or something vapor proof to get it to dry. Tape the wax paper on with masking tape.
Not sure why no one else has replied to your post as I am no expert doing this.
I really would consider just biding your time and getting some from the factory if you can, even if it takes a while to get. It's not as easy to match colors as you might think, and in addition non-factory gel coat may not age the same as something you buy from We$t Marine... the color may fade differently over time, leaving your repair very obvious and almost impossible to fix.
1 - teen has a bit of difficulty parallel parking.
2 - instructor pulls an appropriate colored Sharpie from a bouquet hanging from the re-view mirror.
3 - teen uses it to cover the scratch in the car behind them.
4 - instructor replaces the Sharpie in the bouquet.
5 - teen has more difficulty getting out of the parking spot.
6 - instructor pulls another Sharpie from the bouquet...
Its kinda cute, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this... Its one thing if I decide to cover a scratch on my car/boat with a Sharpie. Its a whole other thing for someone else to make this decision for me...
