Other than MacGregor
Does anyone know of larger boats that are similar to the Mac in terms of draft, power options, etc. It seems like there was a post a few months ago about a 28" made in England but I cannot recall the name.

There is one made in the NE that is semi-custom and a bit pricey. There is another 25 footer made in Mississippi. I believer it is called a Skimmer. 25 feet, kit boat options. Interior looks like a Mac 25.
There is also a custom Pilot house made in Canada. I do not recall the name.
Or you could just get a 28 foot Chriscraft and put a Sail and daggerboard on it.

mackman 28 - started as a trailer sailer - looks like a bigger version of the mac. You would not think that 2' would make that much difference - but its great.
They also do a fixed keel version now. The manufacturer said that he is starting to send them to the US now. 20 per month.

There is no way they are exporting 20 boats per month to the states. These are pretty pricey and think even 2 a month would be a stretch. There is little market for this boat here. Maybe a little larger and constructed better but the price makes this boat DOA once it hits port.
To give you an idea, the Mast/Odin has been around some time now. As of a year ago, there were a total of 100 built worldwide.

I was in the boat show in Barcelona (Spainà last week. The same builders of the Odin were presenting a new boat, almost identical. I have to look at the papres to find out the name. Price: 25,000 € + motor. And in France they are launcing a 28' which on paper seems to be quite nice: I think t will be in the Paris boat show (in 2 weeks). I will try to keep you posted.
There has been an informal Mac Whitsunday cruise in company occuring in Sept - Oct for several years. Mackay to Airley (or Bowen if you're keen) island hopping for 2 weeks. These days most of us end up going troppo on the beach at Hill Inlet (Whitehaven beach) getting sunburnt and sipping cocktails at sunset - bliss! Usually get 10 - 15 boats. These days the Mack 28's are just about outnumbering the 26's. The 28 is much more roomy but the downside is the size and extra weight on the trailor (getting up toward 2.5 - 3 (metric) tonnes with all the gear). I haven't been tempted to trade up, though many have and seem to be happy with their choice.
Whitsundays
A taste!

The beauty of the Mac is that we can get into places like this, the keel boats don't have a hope and the charter boats aren't allowed in so we usually have this paradise to ourselves. In reference to another thread the X, M and 28's dry out very flat and stable (3 - 8 metre tides in this area) - very comfortable.

For July 4th (National Holiday in the US with fireworks common) I went to Martha Vineyard and had 15 square miles of Bay with beaches to myself (one other boat actually for one night) - there was a narrow guy you had to traverse to get into the Bay which was only 5-8 feet deep, so no 'big guys'The beauty of the Mac is that we can get into places like this, the keel boats don't have a hope and the charter boats aren't allowed in so we usually have this paradise to ourselves
