Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for a post about marinas, if not can a moderator please move it, thanks.
This may interest anyone looking for info about cruising the southern out islands, and especially people searching for a slip. A new marina development is planned for our part of the world, Long Island, Bahamas,
see, http://www.portstgeorge.net
If you are looking for a boat-slip, or property, check it out. We are building a house only 10 mins away, so, maybe we'll see you down here.
Great info to have on the board, Roy ... Welcome abd!
Lucky folks to have a house down there ... is the 26X down there too???
you're probably gonna be very good info source!
This thread is best for the Events & Venues forum.
I tweaked your subject heading & added the graphic ...
a Moderator will move it there after a bit.
Can you give us an idea, what it costs to live in paradise -- with a slip?
You don't have to get personal with your information. But can a retired NY Fireman and early retired NY teacher afford anything down there?
Figure roughly $80,000 pension.
Frank, thanks for the warm welcome, yes, our Mac is down here, it's currently sitting in the canal at Stella Maris Marina. Any info you need about the islands, just ask.
Gaz, I don't see why you couldn't afford anything down here. We aren't talking Nassau, Lyford Cay (Sean Connery stuff) or anything like that.
Long Island is just a sleepy out island, the pace of life down here is very slow.
I don't know for sure, but I'm betting that we couldn't afford to live in New York, we're from close to the old one (York, UK) by the way.
Something to remember when comparing the cost of living in the Bahamas to the US is, we don't have any of the multiple taxes you guys have to pay every year.
We do have big import duties though, 46% (gulp) on our Mac, cars and stuff like that.
But they are infrequent payments, and you only pay em if and when you import, compared to income tax payable every year, it's peanuts.
If you want to know anything more specific, ask away.
If you fancy taking a trip down, we'd be happy to show you around.
