I surely would not spend 50 bucks for new P-hooks solely on this problem. The RD on mine is very stiff - no chance it would unwind itself.

Try replacing your RDs with a heavy duty SS key ring - that sucker'll stay put~!

Edit @ mtc - my P-hooks came with the heavy duty rings. Look on WM shelf, the ABI and Johnson brands have heavy rings. Ask salesman where you can find the those heavier rings.
Or - just browse at Hm Depot for a SS key ring.

Frank,

That'll do the trick! These are the stock, verrrrryy thin RDs. Haven't seen thicker ones; where'd you get 'em?

My X had these added to the forward end of the cockpit lifelines by the PO. They are 'Sea Dog' brand and can be put in the stock adjusters with just a slight spreading of the metal. A simple ring ding pin holds them in place. I don't know where you can get them, but they work great.

Post by Navy DOC »

Just wanted to say a public thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Thanks to Bill at BOATs 4 Sail, I now have a replacement pelican hook that I plan to install this weekend.

Thanks again.
