Any recommendations on a tiller auto pilot for Mac 25?
Hey folks, I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with a tiller auto pilot. I am looking for high value, i.e., not too spendy but good performance and reliability. Ease of install is a consideration as well. I have looked at the Simrad TP10, which it looks like I can snag for as little as $280. Any other ideas? I believe I will be single-handing a lot this year and a tiller pilot will come in handy.
Simrad TP 10 for $280 Sounds good to me
I was considering the purchase of a Simrad TP 10 for my M26S. It seems like a very strong and simple tiller pilot. Not many bells and whistles...and that's just fine with me. There is less to go wrong with it.
Where can you get one for $US 280.00 That looks like a very good price if it is new and not refurbished

I just looked it up on froogle.com and it came up with a wide variance in price, but there were several selling the unit around $280 to $320 range, e.g.: http://www.clrmarine.com/m4_view_item.html
Edit: Whoa, glad I did not buy that. Just picked it up here for $250 + $15 s&h: http://eastcoastboatstuff.ecrater.com/p ... pid=729003
Gotta love www.froogle.com

We have the autohelm flux gate unit on our '83 mac 25 and LOVE it....It is the model sized for up to 35' tiller boats because you need the fast lock-to-lock time on such a flat bottomed boat. It is good on the batteries and holds a course well.... except in following seas of say 3-4' waves passing under you, when you will just have to steer for yourself... The AP was one of the best improvements for the the Mac 25 and especially so with the IdaSailer SS rudder/plastic blade/gas strut raising/lowering system... all I can say about it is WOW!

The Simrad tiller pilot does not seem to be as good as the Raymarine tiller pilot.
I have heard from too many disgruntled owners about the Simrad
I have used the Raymarine 1000 with good success
Goodluck with whatever choice you make

I have had the Raymarine 2000 on my Compac 19 and the Raymarine 1000 on my Potter 19. They both performed excellent with no problems.
