Boom Bolt
Hi to everyone and if you love sailing in 110 degree dry heat (today humidity @ 23%) Than head for VEGAS.. We have had what i call steady wind every afternoon for 3 weeks.Just watch-out for that sudden gust that is sure to knock your beer over. The Reason I am posting this is i can not find a extra bolt to hold my boom to mast, it has a reef hook @ top. It is 4'' long and 3/16'' Diamater. My boat is a 1988 26-D Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the spelling and cluttered message but i enjoy typing as much as i enjoy talking on the phone..(telamarketters are my favorite)... True Winds,Femme Fatale

My recollection is that it had a piece of aluminum rod, with one 1/4" horizontal hole coming out of the boom, and one 1/4" vertical hole, which the Reef Hook went through to connect it to the goose-neck, which was later replaced with a piece of SS tube.
I suggest you try lashing it together with some line temporarily.

Aren't the boom extrusions identical? She could buy the newer style gooseneck casting from the factory and replace the old casting. Factory should be able to send all the other bits too ... no??
One related thread is here. Search on the word casting and look for related titles ... at least a half-dozen prior threads discuss the gooseneck casting.

Thanks for the input. And Frank Im a HE last time i checked the boat is the she. My casting, boom and mounting hardware are all fine it's the bolt w/reef hook on top thats in bad shape.(bent & threads flattened)Per magic 02 picture it's right there dead center between boom and mast.. I think i may just have to settle w/common ss bolt and locknut Then attach a cleat to boom for reefing... Great web-site full of interesting information.
