?Any Users of Valvtect Marine Fuel?

Post by SkiDeep2001 »

:?: Does anybody use Valvtect marine gas and if so, opinions please, I've always used automotive fuel in all my boat engines. Pros/Cons - marine fuel over auto fuel for outboards. I do know the marine fuel costs an arm and a leg. I have a 98 Nissan50 2 stroke. Thanks

I was told to use "Regular" gas only with my ETEC, sounds like a question for your dealer or manufacturer.

I have used ValvTect when that was what they had where I stopped. I did not notice any difference but that was for occasional use only. I don't use any brand consistently.

I mostly use gas station 87 regular. When i have been on boat trips and had to buy from a marina, valvtect seems to be what everyone sells. I am not aware that it is special of diffferent (other than costing more because of where I am buying it), just figured it was the brand name. Haven't noticed any difference in performance in my X (Yamaha 90 2 stroke) or my jet ski.

Is there any difference that you know of?

Here is my understanding: Valvtect is an additive that purports to stabilize E10 gasoline, which is what is available in the pumps at most gas stations. I believe that Valvtect gasoline at marinas, is nothing more than the same automotive gas, with the additive already blended in and it is promoted to marinas buy Valvtect, as a way for the marinas to justify much higher prices.

sailsurfski, The valvtect fuel :?: does not contain ethanol :?: not sure, which evidently :?:can harm outboards :?: If you look at this post

(Anyone tackled cleaning '98 Yamaha 4-st. carbs?) there is a reference to a Florida lawsuit concerning ethanol and outboards by sloopjohnb and I (skideep2001) have a post with a link for some info on valvtect fuel and an additive made by them to deal with ethanol in your outboard. Don't know about pros/cons except that I hate paying fuel dock prices. PS, I didn't verify that valvtect doesn't have ethanol, just that it is purported to be better for marine motors. HaminX may be correct. The above info in HaminX post is their dealer marketing spiel. Here is additional info about the fuel itself.http://www.valvtect.com/marine_fules.asp

Down in Port Charlotte Florida there are no less than 3 gas stations that sell No Ethanol Gas for marine use.
My understanding is Ethanol can effect some older (mostly built in ) fuel tanks and some of the gaskets and seats and 0 rings of older motors???
My 2005 50 HP Merc uses straight everyday 87 octane as does my 1983 6 hp Evinrude twin 2 smoke.... BTW I have reduced most the smoke , except at initial start up by increasing from 50 to 1 to 60 to 1 gas versus oil . I just tore down the top end and see no problems from lack of lubrication... I am Not saying any of you should, I am just saying I do, and I hold or make no claims for longevity. I'll do another top end tear down come fall.
