M folding table?

Post by popI »

I rejigged my interior with the U shaped settee I saw on this forum and really like it. I made a nice wooden table top, and then attatched the legs from one of those TV trays that slide under bedsides. It's OK, but requires separate towage of table and legs, and assembly, and it slides around, which is a mixed blessing. So ultimately I envision having the table resting flat up against the daggerboard trunk when not in use, then pivoting down into place, and finally rotated to the horizontal position for use. Anybody tried anything like this? Any ideas?

A simpler version which would also get rid of the TV table legs, but would still require stowing the table top elsewhere is under consideration too: I could glue a piece of wood to the daggerboard trunk at table top height (makes the outer surface flat) and attach a square piece of steel tubing to it about a foot long, also horizontally. There would be a second, smaller square tube attached under the table top and prohjecting from the end about two feet. This tube would telescope into the one mounted on the dagger board and lock in place with a pin. Voila. Thoughts?

I really enjoy accessing the experience and brainpower as well as the enthusiasm on this forum. Thanks everyone.

Hi popI,

I'm not sure which M version you have. Is your idea anything like this?

Cool! This might work even better than what I was thinking about. My boat is an 05 with the sliding galley (unfortunately, as I prefer the 03/04 model). It might be adaptable though with a few small adjustments. The leaf which faces the bench would narrow or perhaps nonexistent, but this might not negatively affect the design. I will have a serious look at this concept. Thanks man!

I too have been thinking of the U shaped settee. My thoughts on a table mod are to have a pedastal support and a table top that is hinged in the middle that would slide under the newly created settee seat for stowage and not intrude into calf space. If the floor is not strong enough to support a central pedastal 3 or 4 locating mounts could be attached to the floor to prevent the table from sliding around. Folding legs with quick release pins for the floor mounts would make it a quick setup Cheers Nick

Good idea. Consider though, that one of the benefits of the U shaped settee is the extra storage space under the bench. I'm building a large drawer to fit there. If you do go with that idea though, you should be able to mount to the floor all right if you can get in there from the portside lockers and shore it up between the ballast tank and the floor. I think its about an inch of space. It might be tough to get that far in, but maybe you could do it with some wood and lots of epoxy and microballoons. Dont drill or screw too far though!
