All,
I am looking to replace my Doyle sails with the suggest Kelly-Hanson (KH) sails. I know there is a lot of buzz about the muscle head sail (don't believe they have one for my X yet), but I want to see if someone knows the difference between the C1000, C2000 and C3000 sails?
I can see on the website that you can order all types of opions for each, but wanted to know what the basic difference is.
Thanks in advance,
Gregg

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
As a result of a 6" tear from the clue along the foot of the sail, I replaced the stock Doyle mainsail on my 26M after less than year of use with a KH C2000. I believe the C2000 is the mid-quality sail in their line & I am very pleased with it. First & 2nd reef points, plus sail slugs are included. The quality of the C2000 is much better compared to the stock Doyle... & the price is competitive.
It comes with an "M" stenciled near the top & a black stripe above & below the "M". I didn't care much for the stripes, but they eventually grew on me.

They're called "draft stripes", and they're meant to help us visualize the airflow on the sail.hartflat wrote: (The C2000 main) comes with an "M" stenciled near the top & a black stripe above & below the "M". I didn't care much for the stripes, but they eventually grew on me.
What I really wanted was my "Beija-Flor" logo that I use as my "avatar" on this site.

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
We need to update our baggie stock sails soon and would like a much flatter heavy sail cut in the standard pattern. Will one of these sails fit my needs ?

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
I have the
C2000 main which is the standard KH flat cut for the
It has excellent draft. The only complaint I have is the batten pockets do NOT have a positive over lapping closure and I have to check my battens each time out. I am taping the slit closed and hope the tape holds. Also, as another poster reported, the slug closest to the first reef is too low on the sail and I broke/ lost it. I will punch out a new cringle higher up as to not get in the way of the reef. Other than those two issues, the sail is well made. With this year's 20 knt winds, I am in the first reef most of the time.
This winter I will also install an intermediate reefing point between the first and second reefs and proper batten closures.

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
I would probably want 3 reef points like we have now. The 3rd reef leaves only about 14 feet of main up, Do you thing the C2000 sail can handle 3 reefs like my sail now without going on deck to take out battens ?

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
I will check out the middle reef location visa vi the batten location when I go out Weds. I have to go forward to change the reefing hook to go to the KH second reef (I have never gone to #2 as it is too deep so this is new territory for me). The intermediate reefing point makes alot of sense. I don't know why you'd have to remove a batten to reef--if you do, that's a bad deal
My proceedure is to reef the main then furl the jib then hove to, douse the main and start the E-tec. When the crew is happy, I'm happy

Re: Difference in KH Sails?
Sorry, could not take the measurments as the weather did not co-operate with big wind, rain and hail. So much for mountain lake sailing
