Just bought Venture 22 - Need Help
Just bought Venture 22 - Need Help
I had a question about going with a venture 21 or 22. I just purchased the Venture 22 yesterday. Great deal for boat, motor, trailer and 3 sails. Owner did not want to pay storage for the winter. I am not planning to sail until the Spring. Unfortunately, I do not know how to rig this boat. Does anyone live in PA, MD or DE that would be willing to help in the spring? The owners manual is not very helpful. Are there other sources to assist me learn how to raise mast, connect boom, rig sails, raise sails, etc. etc.?? I want to take the winter to learn. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Excellent pictures! There are a few things to learn but rigging the boat is not really all that hard (I think it looks more complicated than it really is). Rig the boat a few times on dry land. One great thing about a trailer sailor is that you can practice those things in the drive way. Just be really careful of electric lines both overhead and anywhere the mast could go if it were to get away from you. Check this -- http://www.cruising.sailingcourse.com. Also, http://www.cgaux.org/ (coast guard auxiliary). There is a series of DVDs I like "The Annapolis book of seamanship" with John Rousmaniere. Ask around, I'm sure someone you know knows how to sail and would be more than happy to go sailing with you. Mike

If the boat has a pop top, dinette table and head forward
of the dinette area, then its a V22 or M22.
Practise rigging your boat in your driveway or wherever there
is space and some privacy so you can get familiar with its
rigging and equipment.
best of luck in your new hobby.
it offers a lifetime of interest and enjoyment.

Oh, and John forgot to say. I think you did the right thing going with the V22. Everything I have read indicates that the v22 is an excellent boat. The red boat in the avatar is a digitalized photo of my V21. I also have a 26s. I really think that if I had gone with a v22, vn23 or a v25 then I would only have ONE BOAT! The 21 is cramped quarters for more than day sailing. I hope the v22 brings you much happiness. Mike
