going sailing

hi last time i posted here i had just torn up my right hand and have been out on workers comp for the last four months. i"m going sailing tomorrow, thank fully i'm in san diego so the sailing season never ends. i was trying to talk my wife into considering sailing in the baha ha ha race down to cabo san lucas in baha calif. my wife has problems with the drug wars down in mexico right now and it didn't help when a sailboat was rammed by a whale about 200 nm south of san diego and sank but hopefully my wife will have a short memory next year. really looking foward to being on the boat again. i really sympathize with those of you that have to layup for the winter. happy sailing

Have you been on the bahaha before? I see you have an X, were you planning on taking it to baha? Just curious...I will be trailering my M down to San Diego next may and will most likely try to get a slip at the Police docks near Kona Kai Marina...Unless you have another suggestion. I love being in that bay...one day I may leave my boat there and commute back and forth from Northern California when I retire.

Just finished booking a week on a Beneteau 31 in the BVIs in middle of February

A little reward for living in Calgary Alberta with a sailing season of 223 hrs 52 minutes and 12 seconds.

Those that sail year round can't possibly appreciate sailing like some of us northerns do.

no i have never sailed the baha ha ha, in fact i've only had my 26x out 4 times before mangling my right hand but they don't charge for dreaming. i'm also trying to talk the admiral into going to catalina soon but she has motion sickness so it is slow going. luckily she hasen't been bothered much so far. she uses the wrist bands successfully. however the 2 times i stuck my nose into the pacific she wanted to go back into the little bay, the waves bothered her. not very big to me 1 to 2 ft was all. to clarify san diego has 2 bays, the big bay very scenic, main rule to remember is if it is big and grey get out of the way. the small bay, mission bay , is full of jet skis with drivers that are totally clueless. i felt like i was a big slow moving target when i sailed on mission bay so i'll probably go there only when i'm going to pull the way to big costco pull toy for the kids.

The Old Farmer's Almanac claims that the 2010 sailing season in Calgary will be longer ... from 12 to 18 seconds.

Today the wind is 20 to 30 mph and 65 deg F but next week it is 6 to 10 mph and 60 deg F not bad for late fall sailing.
I just got back from Seattle and sailing Pudget Sound where the water only gets down to 54 deg F all winter and the breezes are usually a steady 15 mph. The trip home across Snowquami pass in the Cascades was a slushey, snowey trip and only had it in 4x4 for 15 miles, all the salt on our boat and trailor was washed off and it was clean and dry before I got home.
We sail all winter except in gale warnings like today unless were already out. I can't downhill ski any longer so I use my ski clothing sailing it works really well. Locally the morrage is free untill the first of April with power and we take advantage of that all winter.
I have been invited to go to BVI with a old buddy on his Gemini cat 34 that is now on the hard near Miami but maybe later this winter.

think we need to sail together, I too am in San Diego Spent all summer in the little bay working the wife into the new boat, come to the venture races next weekend in the big bay.
