seal the tops of new steel goal posts

Post by Paul S »

I got a new set of goal posts for our factory mac trailer.

The common thinking is to drill drain holes at the bottom of them so water can drain. works well and is logical.

Mine on my trailer are rusting pretty bad, so I bought new steel goal posts for the trailer.

I was thinking.. before I install them.... how about sealing the top of the posts so water can't get in at all. weld or glue with panel adhesive, steel caps to the top of each one - making them water tight.. or alternatly using an expanding rubber plug at the top

option 2 - do the same, but fill each post with some rust proofing material (or motor oil, antifreeze, or something). Seal it up. Won't rust from the inside! Just have to worry about the outside.

Thoughts?

Cut an X in a tennis ball and jamb it over the tops of them. works great.

I put PVC pipes over the top of mine - they automatically float up when you launch so that you can find them when you dock. I capped them with the screw type plumbing fixtures. White of course. You can use the blue glue as long as you carefully remove every visible trace...speed, you know.

I mean totally seal the factory goalposts so no water can get inside the steel tubes...so not a drop of water can get inside....and put something inside so it can't rust (rustproofing, oil, etc) and cap it permanantly

I have 5' pvc tubes on the old goal posts so i can guide it on better..but thats not what I am talking about

I just want to keep the steel posts from rusting from the inside out.

Measure the O/D and get a pvc cap. 5200 it on.

I would still drill a hole in the base.
