trailer weight

Post by rick retiree »

Planning to buy new tow vehicle for my 2001 X and am trying to figure out GVWR. brochure shows dry weight of the :macx: is 2550 lbs. I dont think that includes weight of trailer. Would anyone out there know the weight of the Mac trailer ( mine should be heavier since it is tandem axle. ) Thanks guys, have a Merry Christmas

I weighed our 2000 :macx: on a commercial scale last year.
Trailer and boat with Suzuki 50hp motor, was 4350 pounds. (no luggage or tender)

Get a min. 5000 lbs. 6000 lb would be much better as you load your boat, chances are fully loaded would be around 4500 to 5000 lbs GVW.
I have a new aluminum tandem Trailer (999lbs plus 75 lb brake) boat fully loaded weighs 4500-4800 lbs GVW.
I need a new tow truck as I have been towing this boat accross state on a 150 ford Quard cab with standard trans thats 10 yrs old for past 2 yrs. Tow capicity is 2000 lbs for this truck, yes I went thru a clutch.I only have 74K miles on it so will replace clutch again before I get a new one when I retire 3 yrs from now. Truck is a F150 Quad cab with a standard trans 1999.

The trailer alone from the factory for a 26X was 775 lbs, the new 26M trailer is 575 lbs. The 26X without gear is 2350 lbs, the 26M without gear is 2550 lbs. The Suzuki 50 motor is 243 lbs. The towing weight varies due to the rest of the stuff that we all put in our boats. Best to have your boat weighed at a scale and you will get a correct weight. You should always strive to keep the stuff weight down so that the boat can sail and motor to its full potential, but sometimes you just need the stuff no matter what! I remember sitting on one of our seats that I had so packed full that the hatch could no longer close, I just sat on it and smiled and said no no no there is not too much stuff here...

Right! Lot's of stuff add's weight! Don't forget the weight of the extra stereo speakers, and all those tools that some of us bring to be able to help out others when we run accross stranded people! The best thing to do is go through your boat, find stuff that you are no longer needing and remove it, and then take it to a scale to get the actual weight.
