The new boat finally gets to sail

Post by flyboy26m »

The new boat finally gets to sail.
I purchased my new 26m last year from Boats4sale.com.
I ended up in a Car accident and then a cycle accident so I only had a few hours on the water last year with no wind. I did get some Modifications done so all was not lost.
A few weeks ago I had a four day weekend planned but my main sail was not back from the
Sail maker. (I had it converted to a dual purpose boom/boom- less sail). So I used the boat as
A cabin and spent 3 beautiful days on the lake. All went well except I snapped a goal post off. My Bow strap mod worked great and pushed the boat back into the v-block. So it saved the Gel coat but broke the post. I remembered another member posted a mod on 8 foot guide on bunks so I tracked down the company and they gave me the same customized order as his. (Thank you for posting this mod it worked great). The only change was I hooked my 4” wide bow straps to the front of the Bunk guides.
Over the 4th of July weekend I spent another 4 days on the lake. It was a fantastic trip. The boom-less main sail was a joy to deploy and sail. I anchored in a Regulated “quit" cove and several folks came by to look and ask questions about the boat. Other sail boats can’t get there because they don’t have hinged mast to get under the bridge. The generator feed the microwave and Pinni grill and kept the batteries happy. I had perfect weather until a few hours before departing. I had a 40 minute thunder storm to experience before cranking down the mast and empting the ballast tank.
The 25 pound mason and the 25 feet of chain with 1/2" rode did a nice job of keeping the boat and me in one place.
Upon loading the wind was stronger than before and I glanced off the guide boards and into the bow strap where I ended up on the V-block and down the ladder I went.
I would like to mention the head Mod I did. I hated that port-a-potty that came with the boat. After searching for a year I found a composting urine separating toilet called natures head. It was the best $1000 I spent on the boat purchase so far. If you don’t want to empty that stinking port-a-potty every trip, buy this unit. No smell and you empty it once a season or every 30-60 days for 2 people.
Thanks Mr. Macgregor for a great boat. For someone who has never sailed before or owned anything bigger than a 15' fishing boat I am happy with the way it turned out. A little more practise and Florida Keys here I come :D

Hi Andrew,

That is what I call it because I have not seen one before so I am not sure if I created something new or not.

When I decided I wanted a sailboat I had chosen a F22 Tri. The F22 has a boom-less mainsail and I liked that for several reasons.

Then I found the 26m and could buy one for the price of the materials for a F22 so I sold the plans and bought the 26m.

I still like the boom-less sail so I contacted the sail maker that makes the 26m mainsail and asked if it was possible to have a boom-less sail on the 26m.

He said it would be no problem and explained how it is done and what it would cost.

I asked him if I could just modify my mainsail to serve both purposes. He told me yes but they did not do conversions just new sails.

He told me to contact a local sail maker. I did and one of her suppliers said they could do it.

I will try and post a picture in the Mods section when I get a chance or send me your email and I will send you one.

Best Regards,
Michael

More needed on the 'composting urine' type head. Does thia mean you can...... circumnavigate?

Relalize (spelling) your costs are way different than mine!

Hi Ross, :D

I will let you determine for yourself:

http://www.natureshead.net

The term is Urine Seperating Dry Toilet. Sorry I am not an expert user but am a happy one 8)

I fail to understand these - how is that different than peeing in a bottle? Looks really messy and I can only imagine discarding the waste is not a task of joy. :)

Hi Jim,

The solid goes into the composting area of the head where it is turned into mulch. The only smell you get, if you open
up the toilet, is a light earthy dirt smell. The liquid goes into a 2 gal removable bottle that has a cap that you dump out when full.
I have used it now for two 4 day trips over a four week period and it has worked out very well for me.
I will post some pics in the Mod section when I get a chance.
