07 hyundai tuscan 2.7 eng. 2x2 automatic tranny as a tow veh
would that be ok to tow a v17? displacement is 800lb, trailer is iron so its little bit heavier i guess. i don't know how it will do on the wet, slippery ramps...not doing so well in the winter driving to be honest.
i believe manual says its ok to tow but i like to hear if anyone with similar model has real experience with it. thanks

How far and how long a trailer trip?
...and will it be the flatlands or craggy peaked passes of the Rockies?

hi. my home turf is only 5 min away. As much as i am dreaming of trailering to the close by lakes, that only happened few times in past 4 years and the distance was an hour. so i am most likely to keep the drive to max few hours. Roads are flat, highway, interstate types.(mid hudson-new york area) . my local ramp is also accessed by the town road without much hill.

Do you mean Tucson?
I believe that the towing capacity is 2000 lbs. What is the weight of your boat+trailer+gear?

i am guessing...we should be under 1500lb. i should have taken it to the town recycling place to get it on the scale. right now i cant do that so i am not really sure.before i had a isuzu amigo 4x4 manual trannsmission. it was very easy to tow it and snatch it right off the water.

Im on the Hudson too....this is flatland country indeed, except when I go to the Cape and have to cross the Berkshires....
For a V17 your tow rig will be fine imho...both to and at the ramps...

Edmunds says it's got a 1500 lb tow capacity, which should be alright. 140 hp (130 hp for the Amigo), wheelbase of 103.5" (96.9" for the Amigo), but a little lighter at 3240 lb (3589 lb for the Amigo). The longer the wheelbase, the less chance of fishtailing, in my experience. Just make sure you have enough tongue weight, which you can check with a bathroom scale.
Cheapest hitch I found for that car is a Class II (1-1/4" receiver) Draw-Tite for $143 plus shipping, but orders over $150 usually have free shipping, so a ball mount or wiring harness would push it over the top. I buy a lot of trailer parts from these folks, but that's my only connection (no vested interest, in other words). http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/H ... d=20076205
We've had two of those cars, including a 2007, and thought they were strong for their size. I suspect your boat and trailer combo will be less than the max tow capacity of the car. Sounds like an acceptable combo to me. Heck, in Europe, they'd tow that boat with a Mini Cooper.
Edit: You might want to consider a tranny cooler, especially since tow capacity is pretty much maxed out. Unless you're going low and slow only, but in hot weather, and/or over real hills, your tranny will thank you.

"at some point" should be sooner rather then later, they are easy to install and cheap. in fact I think the cost of the cooler is cheaper then the cost of new tranny fluid.littledevil wrote:thanks for the detailed info. tranny cooler is definately something that i would add at some point.
