New mac25 Owner Santa Barbara?
Hello,
I am the new (to me) owner of a 1985 Mac25. I am curious if anyone has sailed their Mac25 out of Santa Barbara Harbor, or if there are any other Mac25 owners in the SB/Ventura/Morro Bay Area. Mine is sitting on a trailer, and I plan on launching it out of the harbor this weekend. This is my first sailboat, and I have taken ASA 101 and 103 to get my learning jump started. I would love to see how any other local Mac25 owners have rigged their boat.
Thanks!
SEJ

Yup, I'm a long time local to Morro Bay. Just bought my first sailboat as well. It needs just about everything, but the hull seems pretty good and the price was right. Alas the project begins.
There have been dozen and dozens of whales just off shore north of the rock at any given time this past week. While its been a blast watching them breach, its torture too because I have to look past my unsailable boat to see the ocaen. Its a VERYgood time to do some whale watching right now if your thinking of heading up here. Warm air, clear skies, shallow swell, and just about the perfect breeze to sail.
I look forward to a little racing when I get mine sea worthy. I basically have the same launch schedule...Morro Bay to Long Beach.

We'll be sailing out of Channel Islands harbor in Oxnard this weekend. A friend will be there with his mac 25. I'll be on my 26D. Of course with the big waves they've been having we may not even get outside the harbor.

I am new here, 1976 Venture 25, North Bay Area, do you have any rigging pictures? I am in the process of reworking the keel, I rebuilt the original winch, next up the pivot bolt just so I know its good. I am hoping to get into Tamales Bay for its first trip before winter gets here.

Used to hop over to Santa Cruz Island on the weekends. Fry's Harbor is a great anchorage. Leave early, afternoon wind can be a monster. Hike inland a bit and you will find a fresh water spring waterfall. Don't know if you still need a permit from the Santa Cruz Island Company?? I have a hole story about blue suede tennis shoes.
Sailed to Santa Barbara Island once!! Long Haul even for a three day weekend. Haul down to Oxnard and visit Anacapa. Great tidepools. Visited Morro Bay YC, Wonderful folks. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt

Re: New mac25 Owner Santa Barbara?
I just got a 1976 Venture 25. The boat is very original looking and in good shape. It lacks running rigging, and a few small things.
I am rebuilding the keel winch ( parts easy to get ) and will be replacing the keel pivot bolt.
The original blue color is dusty and cleans up nicely with a sponge and "ajax".
Is there anyone in the bay area with a V25 or M25, I would like to see their set up.
Has anyone converted the rudder to flip up on one of these boats? My rudder is basically a slab that hangs on the stern.

Re: New mac25 Owner Santa Barbara?
Thanks. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to meet up out of channel islands harbor, simply didn't check this thread in time. We have been working on the boat, installed solar panel, vhf, gps...installed a new winch for the keel. Fixed the eye on the boat for trailering. Then had someone restore the keel completely. Unfortunately I think the keel is worth more than the boat now, but I have peace of mind when I take my wife and two kids out. Seems like a never-ending project, but hey it's fun. Was able to float the boat, and take her out for the first time out of Santa Barbara harbor with the wife and kids yesterday. What a blast! Ton of fun, we were out for about 5 hours. Need to work on the interior next and get her to a condition to be able to take short weekend trips.

Re: New mac25 Owner Santa Barbara?
Hey Scubaanddreams, who did you keel repair? I live in Nipomo and just picked up a V222 a month or so off of Craigslist. The keel is just a hunk of iron w/no fiberglass at all and while I haven't started working on it I'm noodling my head wondering how I can do it. Is there someone on the Central Coast you can recommend?
morrobaymac- I haven't taken my boat out yet but my buddy has a 35' Catalina in Morro Bay that I go sailing on with him. Rounding the curve around the rock can be a clincher sometime in that Bay. I'll probably be sailing in the bay sooner or later. (hopefully by summer) Do you find with your Mac25 that the tide coming in and out has a decent effect on sailing in the bay? My buddy's mooring faces east/west and he is on the S end of the dock so when the tide is going it out it more or less pins him to the dock. I'm a bit nervous about getting out there in my 22' but I'm generally nervous about sailing anyway....at least learning to sail by myself eventually. I'll look you up once I get my boat ready if you don't mind.
