26x multiple repair questions

Post by macowneril2015 »

I have finally been able to pull apart and exam the NS50D2 outboard(its a nissan but really a tohatsu) on my :macx: I need new parts and was wondering if anyone could recommend a reliable parts website. My next question is the running lines I have are a disaster or missing so I was wondering what lines I need for the main sail and genoa. I also have a furler. I was wondering if someone could point me to a website and provide any suggestions on brand and any tips. All input is more than appreciated.

We have a Suzuki and I usually just get them through blue water yachts. They've had some more obscure parts in stock and the ones they didn't they ordered in pretty fast and shipping is very reasonable. I'd order local but they're not willing to make marine orders in the winter (waited three months on the last part) and charge more for shipping than the parts are usually worth.

I haven't found much selection for my tohatsu for online parts. I think all parts have to be sold through a dealer. I found a parts catalog and maintenance manual for my M50D. I find the part number in the parts catalog then search online for it. My motor is so old that the actual part number doesn't exist any more but there is often a replacement part number. I'll then search for that number to see how many hits I get.

I usually only find 2-3 sites that sell tohatsu parts.

I just did a test search for a fuel filter assembly. Looks like boats.net sells it. The tohatsu website gives a list of superseded part numbers.

My motor is 20 years old this year. I'm just glad I can still find parts. Also glad that it still cranks right up and runs pretty decent.

I have purchased a lot of parts for my Honda50 and Suzie2.5 over the years. I have excellent experience with them.

Thank you, I was not too sure I was hoping maybe a few people with just a bad experience.

Can anyone tell me what lines I will need to buy since most of mine are MIA or shredded. I have a CDI flexible furler the standard main sail and the standard genoa.

I used to have an old Tohatsu 90 hog and I always had good service from this website:
http://www.nissanoutboardparts.com/
For the lines, here is a good link:

If you haven't already done so it might help you to go to the resources page at the top and print the manual for your model. There is a lot of good information there with simple wording so you won't need a dictionary to understand it.
There is also a video series out there "Speedy Rigger", made by a guy who teaches simple setup, and a second video on how to sail it. I understand it is very good, but I have no afflation with this company, and have only see bits so my 1st hand knowledge is limited. Maybe someone else can give you a better review as to it's worth.

What type of trouble did you have with your engine?
I am fouling my two lower cylinders with water, not a head gasket problem. Wondering if anyone else knows of Nissan50 problems like this. Cracked cooling gallery??
I have used Boats.net for ordering many parts before, never had any issues with them.

I cannot speak for others' experiences, but the guys at a local repair shop/marina near the park where I keep my boats referred me to Boats.net for parts for the little Tohatsu 2.5 hp that came with my "foundling Com-Pac 16" that I'd brought by to show them. All I can tell you is that the guys at Boats.net treated me right: helping me sort out the right coil needed for the specific model of engine I have from among several alternatives, calling the folks at Tohatsu on my behalf to make certain I got the right part, and then actually getting back to me by phone the same morning. That's some "old school" customer service there. The price was right, shipping reasonable, quick and clearly expert. What's not to like?

If that is a serious offer I would consider it haha, I really just need someone who would be willing to show me how to raise the mast and to help me determine if I need anything else for the rigging or sails because I am kind of way over my head haha.
