Mac 22 Pop Up thingy
Newbie here. Got a 1983 Mac 22 and am so excited for warmer weather to start cleaning it up. I think I'm missing something for the pop up. I can get it raised, but I don't have anything to keep it from going back down. But I don't know what should be used. Does anyone have a pic of what keeps it from going back down? I think I could make something...but I'd like to see what was used.
Thanks!!!

Hi Sundew!
There should be a pair of pipe brackets the the top rests upon when lifted up and swung forward.
You can find some information in the “Reference Section” of this forum that might help you.
I believe there is a manual for your boat there.
On some of the Mac26S models the pop top rested against the mast to stay up with a thumb clip to hold it in that position so it didn’t move aft …..
Best Regards

zoom in on this pic looks like maybe one or two alum poles coming up from the front at about 45degree angle u may have to download the pic onto ur computer to b able to zoom in on it !

Looks like they r avail from BWY
https://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/6301-120.htm
If u can figure out the length u might b able to get them cut at ur local S/S Shop or marine shop may have some diff lengths avail

Re: Mac 22 Pop Up thingy
I snapped these pics from my 1981 mac22. They are 28" long. I think the one with the rivet is an original, the other is one I made out of a piece of 3/4" galvanized metal electrical conduit. Easy to make with a hammer, vise and file or grinder.

The deck fitting is just like the one on the inside of the pop top. You need 4 total.

The angle in this photo is about proper when installed. I made 2 shorter ones also. Im not tall.

Nice pics I guess u have to attach a line to the mast so as the wind doesn't blow it back , I know on the 25 I believe it goes all the way forward & attaches to the mast slot

Thanks, everyone! This is really good info to have and your help is much appreciated. I happen to work at a manufacturing company, so I can get stainless steel at a very low cost and make something that will work. Just needed these pics so that I can see what it is supposed to look like. It was pretty much what I expected.

Here is how I tie it down there is a cleat next to the mast base, and then tie to the crossbar.

This photo shows the approx. brace angle. The pop top never goes over Top dead center, so the bulk of the weight is still loaded forward.

and a couple of more photos.
