Repair/ replace wooden windows

Post by Agi »

Hey community,

I would like to ask you if you have any ideas how to repair the wooden windows or to replace them with something more modern looking :)
The edges of the wooden windows are coming of and do not fit nicely anymore the same is with the table...

Thank you all in advance

Hi Agi

One could always just paint them ….

I’m not entirely sure but I don’t recall anyone actually removing them and replacing them….(but I could be mistaken  )…. I suppose you could try to carefully remove one and see how it looks. If you do please post a couple pictures and describe how it was accomplished. It would be interesting to see !

Best Regards

hi. that edging can be found online and is pretty easy to replace. just make sure to get the correct size of the insert which fits into the groove in the edge of the wood. it is also available in many colors should you fancy a change.

The X does not have that trim on the windows so I can't speak from personal experience, but based on your pictures it looks like they used rubber T-molding. If that is what you have you will need to know the width of the molding and the width and depth of the groove where the "T" part would go. On the "plus" side I'm sure that it was an off-the-shelf item and not something that was manufactured specifically for the M boats so you should be able to find it or at least a close-enough match.

Good luck!

Just a suggestion if you haven’t already done so…
You might want to cal Blue Water Yachts… if they don’t have it they should be able to tell you who does…

BWY sells it for $0.85/ft and while I suspect it would be quite expensive to ship it to Athens, Greece, that is certainly an option.

For what it's worth - the old MacGregor factory site listed "TRIM - T - ANGOLA BROWN 5/8" OUTWATER 105-662-742" as a part used in building one of the boats. The OUTWATER website does list various 5/8" T-moulding and their website has dimensional drawings for the item. Perhaps Agi could find a local supplier for something similar.
