Catalina Trip March 25-26 [Pics on last page]

Post by Mark Karagianis »

Ok, let's get a trip organized!

[NOTE: Trip Date Change - back one week to the fourth weekend in March - Looks like more people will be able to go then. MK]

<<<Pictures are now posted! Go to the bottom of Page 5 - MK 4-12-06>>

Saturday March 25 early am departure from MDR, anchor maybe at Cat Harbor, and return Mid-Sunday 26th. I'm sure that some may want to go earlier (Mike, are you going to leave at midnight?) and or stay later, but we have to fit this into a weekend.

Who's interested?

We could do the 18th, but due to Molly's school schedule, the 25th would work out a lot better.

work makes leaving at midnight fri undoable so am sat morning would be good for me either date 18 or the 25 in fact I will be on vacation the 25th
all week and want to try the derdy at MDR. So a slip from 28th on will be in order for me that week.

Mark, can you make the 25th?? It sounds like the other 3 boats are alright with it.

Mike will be on a 1 week boating adventure, Scott preparing for the big Mexico trip and we will just have to go back to work... Oh well life is pretty good still!

Although we could make the 25th-26th, we will not be able to take our two youngest teens that weekend, as they both have obligations. Hmm, there is a small chance that we would be able to bring our two 20-somethings on that weekend . . . .

If everyone votes for the 25th-26th, then Diane and I will acede and we'll just bring kids to the next Catalina Trip. It would certainly be easier for us without them. I had really wanted to take our two youngest, as they are "bored" with sailing and this would give them a new aspect to consider. I'm hoping that we can get in several Catalina trips before the "May-June Gloom" (fog, for you non-SoCal readers) hits.

I want to do a three-day in early summer to Santa Rosa - Santa Cruz Islands. Pretty ambitious talk for someone that has no experience in anchoring.

Cat trip

I would be interested in going. It would work better for me on the 18th. I would be leaving from Oceanside and would have to meet you there though. I could go either weekend or maybe even both, it just that the 18th. would be better for me.

Well, now that we have settled on a weekend, it looks like we have 6 Macs going:

Mark & Diane
Jetta01
aya16
Timmy Z (Can you still make it?)
scott vos
and Mike Inmon & crew (Inmon Yacht Sales)

I suggest an early Saturday morning departure from MDR, say 8 am (which will be early for me, as I will be trailering in and setting up), and return mid-Sunday? Mike (aya16), I imagine you'll be staying in Catalina?

Tropico (Santa Clarita), and someone in Oceanside (I can't find you now), are you coming?

Can I get a confirmation posting of those who will go? Thanks,

Mark

Trip

I will be sailing from Oceanside. Ill leave Oceanside early Friday morning on the 17th and probably motor most of the way, if not all. Ill just meet up with everyone when you get there. As far as kids, I may have my 10-year-old son with me, but who knows. The older ones will be working. Of course this all depends on the weather.

I think the consensus is everyone trying to go the weekend of the 25-26th per Marks revised original post. Weather permitting, this also works good for us as we will be pulling our boat out of Marina Del Ray mast up storage directly after the Catalina trip and getting her ready for the Baja trip. Rick, Mike, Mike Inmon, is this the consensus ?? anyone else thinking of comming ??

either week for me so lets do it. Ill be on vacation the week of the 25th.
Are we staying at the isthmus or cat harbor? If we stay at cat harbor I need to get another anchor, Not a problem though. At cat harbor you have to have two anchors, its their rule. so dont forget to bring them.

Also we will need to bring some kind of colasble cart with weels to carry supplies over the hill One will be enough for all of us.

Hey Scott got any junk 10 foot lenths of 4" black abs laying around?
wait till you see my idea for a dingy carrier to the ramp.

Sounds like the makings of a good trip...I am scheduled to judge the Bristol boat competition, at my yacht club, on that weekend. You guys all have USCG aux vessel exams? I do that too. Maybe some weekend I can tow down for a sail and exams? Have a safe trip over.
