Has anyone attempted to make it easier to haul those rudders up?
I saw one mod where someone made an attachment to the stern rail seats on an M but I do not have those on my M.
There is a continuous loop that goes from one trailing edge of the rudder up over the stern through the inside and then down and out to the leading edge of the rudder.
I am having difficulty trying to figure how I can put a 2:1 or 3:1 or 4:1 purchasing pulley system with the limited line ends I have. There is only one available end and it is attached to the trailing rudder edge. It seems every time I try to do it I am short of ends. I have my mainsheet tackle available to play with as it was replaced with the bearing airblocks from BWY.
The Admiral is unable to yank those rudders up, so I am looking for a way to make it easier when I am not immediately available.
Any ideas?

Terry,
I got my
used and the PO mod'ed a pulley system on the rudder up-hauls. Works great. I am not a pulley engineer but I think it is a 2:1 system.
I am sailing this weekend (boat is 2 hours away) so I will take some pictures and post on Monday night or Tuesday. I believe I saw something like this on the mods page. You may want to look there.
My
is the only Mac I ever seen so I am not sure what "normal" looks like. But the system I have seems to work very nice.

A 2:1 purchase system is easily done with a small block and a short length of line for each rudder. Untie the existing up-haul line from the rudder, run it through the block, and then terminate it with a bowline knot through the eye strap where the lifeline terminates. Connect the block to the up-haul hole in the rudder with a short piece of line. See the result below -- lifting the rudders now requires half the effort. Others have attached blocks directly to the rudders at the up-haul holes with stainless shackles - but I prefer to keep the blocks out of the water [and the short lines cost less than ss shackles].

FYI - I have employed pretty much the same approach to gain a very useful 2:1 advantage on the daggerboard up-haul line...... just posted a description and photo of the daggerboard rig on the Mac Mods Page.
